The 2nd World War affected Swindon Town more than most other football clubs and the club was almost disbanded, the club needed a large amount of time to recover and for this reason it failed to make any real impression in the league and would not climb into the second division until 1963 when they finished runners up to Northampton Town.

The Village of Northville is in the northern part of the Town of Northampton and is northeast of Gloversville.

Northville was incorporated in 1873, setting itself off from the Town of Northampton.

The Town of Gates was organized in 1797 as Northampton in Ontario County.

In 1808 the town was subdivided and the part still called Northampton was renamed the Town of Gates and incorporated on April 1, 1813 in honor of General Horatio Gates.

Northampton is in the Town of Southampton.

In 2001 – 02, holders Liverpool were defeated 2 – 1 at home by Grimsby Town, then humbled again by Northampton Town in September 2010.

Local wagoneers transported the bell to the Zion German Reformed Church in Northampton Town, now Allentown, where it waited out the British occupation of Philadelphia behind a false wall.

The similar but much larger Amherst – Northampton area of western Massachusetts is also a favorite hangout but is almost an hour away down Interstate 91.

The county shares most of its western border with Montgomery County, and also borders Philadelphia to the southwest, and Northampton and Lehigh Counties to the north.

The town of Gates in Monroe County, New York was once also called Northampton.

Its villages include Emerald, Friedens, Lehigh Furnace, Lehigh Gap ( also in Northampton County ,) Neffs ( also in North Whitehall Township ,) Newhard, Newside, and Slatedale.

The township is served by the Bethlehem Area School District and is also host to Northampton Community College.

At the time, the area was part of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, which by the mid-18th century also included land now called Northampton County and Lehigh County.

The river gave its name to the former Nene College of Higher Education in Northampton, now the University of Northampton, and also to the Rolls-Royce Nene turbojet engine, Rolls-Royce's practice being to name their gas turbine designs after British rivers.

The Commissioners were also keen to see a link constructed from Northampton to the Grand Junction Canal, but the canal company argued that there was an insufficient supply of water.

The town is also the location of the former Northampton Barracks, which housed units of the British Army of the Rhine until 1993 ( postcode: BFPO 33 ).

Central Trains also inherited some Birmingham to Northampton services from Silverlink.

The line has its main core which was expanded into a complex system of branches and divergences serving also the major towns and cities of Northampton, Coventry, Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Stoke-on-Trent, Macclesfield, Stockport, Manchester, Runcorn, and Liverpool ; there is also a link to Edinburgh, but this is not the direct route between London and Edinburgh.

South of Rugby there is a loop that serves Northampton, and there is also a branch north of Crewe to Liverpool which is notable since Weaver Junction on this branch is the oldest flyover-type junction in use.

The WCML also passes through some hilly areas, such as the Chilterns ( Tring cutting ), the Watford Gap and Northampton uplands followed by the Trent Valley, the mountains of Cumbria with a summit at Shap, and Beattock Summit in southern Lanarkshire.

On April 1, 1887 the B & M leased the Boston and Lowell Railroad, adding not only trackage in the Boston area, but also the Central Massachusetts Railroad west to Northampton, the Boston, Concord and Montreal Railroad into northern New Hampshire, the St. Johnsbury and Lake Champlain Railroad to northwestern Vermont, and the Connecticut and Passumpsic Rivers Railroad from White River Junction into Quebec.
