Entitled Back Pages, the album was a collection of twelve tracks covering songs from artists ranging from Bob Dylan and Joni Mitchell to Adam Schlesinger and the Gin Blossoms.
Four songs from Another Side of Bob Dylan were eventually recorded by The Byrds: " Chimes of Freedom ", " My Back Pages ", " Spanish Harlem Incident ", and " All I Really Want to Do ".
After " Chimes of Freedom ", Dylan's protest songs no longer depicted social reality in the black and white terms he renounces in " My Back Pages " but rather use satirical surrealism to make their points.
Bob Dylan wrote " My Back Pages " in 1964 as one of the last songs — perhaps the last song — that he composed for his Another Side of Bob Dylan album.
As with the other songs on Another Side, Dylan is the sole musician on " My Back Pages " and plays in a style similar to his previous protest songs, with a sneering, rough-edged voice and a hard-strumming acoustic guitar accompaniment.
