Originally, KUPX was an outlet for inTV, a shopping and infomercial network owned by Paxson Communications, but on August 28, 1998, Paxson launched a family network called Pax TV, and KUPX became a Pax TV station, airing network programming 14 hours per day on weekdays, 13 hours on Saturdays and ten hours on Sundays.

Paxson took control of the station in August, renaming it as WPXN-TV, and ran channel 31 under a local marketing agreement with a format that featured Bloomberg Business News in daytime, infomercials ( from Paxson's inTV ) and religious programs ( from Paxson's Worship Network ) the rest of the day.
The feud ended in May 1996, when WAKC canceled its news operation after being purchased by Paxson Communications and dropped all ABC programming in December 1996 to air infomercials and religious programming under the WVPX-TV call letters.

On April 20, 1998, Paxson entered into an agreement with Roberts Broadcasting and ACME Communications in which each station would acquire the other's assets but WB programming would remain on this station.
In the fall of 1998, the station affiliated with Pax TV ( later i and now ION Television ), running the network's programming from 11 a. m. to 7 p. m. and again from 10 p. m. to 1 a. m. WSFJ also began to be seen on a translator in Columbus, WCPX-LP channel 48, which was owned by Pax's parent company, Paxson Communications ( now ION Media Networks ).
On April 20, 1998, Paxson entered into an agreement with Roberts Broadcasting and ACME Communications where each station would acquire the other's assets, but WB programming would remain on channel 30.

In the meantime, WHCT stayed dark until February 5, 1997, when the bankruptcy trustee for Astroline, to avoid the license being automatically canceled by the FCC on February 9, put the station back on the air with programming provided by Paxson Communications ( which sold WTWS soon afterward ).
