The story is set in the fairly drab fictional town of Croynge ( sometimes spelled Crunge ), which is apparently a south London borough-the name is derived from Croydon and Penge.
However, visually the location often resembles an industrial Northern town and may have its roots in how Croydon, Penge and the towns between them appeared in the 1950s.
It is located in the Anerley area between the town centres of Crystal Palace and Penge.
It does, however, have regular bus services operating from the town centre also serving urban hotspots in and around the borough including Orpington, Lewisham, Penge, Bexleyheath and Croydon.
