* January 27 – Adolf Hitler orders Plan Z, a 5-year naval expansion programme intended to provide for a huge German fleet capable of crushing the Royal Navy by 1944.

The Z Plan called for a fleet of 10 battleships, 4 aircraft carriers, 15 Panzerschiffe, 5 heavy cruisers, 44 light cruisers, 68 destroyers and 249 U-boats by 1944.

Reflecting Raeder's obsession with big battleships, the Z Plan called a new class of gigantic H battleships to be the core of the proposed fleet, which would have been the largest battleships ever built.

The Canadian historian Holger Herwig wrote that the Z Plan was Raeder's fantasy given that the Z Plan fleet would take 8 million tons of oil whereas in 1939 Germany imported a total of only six million tons of oil.

Naval planners informed Raeder that the Z Plan fleet would require ten million cubic metres of storage to be built in order to supply enough oil to last a year.

Raeder never addressed the question of where the oil that was supposed to power the Z Plan fleet was going to come from, or where the oil would be stored once it had been imported.

The fleet envisioned in the Z Plan was totally incompatible with the Anglo-German Naval Agreement ( A. G. N. A ) of 1935, which limited the Kriegsmarine to 35 % of the total tonnage of the Royal Navy, which meant that A. G. N. A.

Owing to the fact that the great fleet envisioned in Plan Z existed only in blue-prints or had just began to be built, Raeder like Tirpitz before him in 1914 was forced to abandon his pre-war plans for a great naval battle in the North Sea, and instead embrace the guerre de course strategy that he had previously been opposed to.

Hitler and Raeder planned not only to build a huge base at Trondheim called Nordstern which was intended to be the future home of the fleet envisioned in the Z Plan, but also to turn Trondheim into a German city of a quarter of a million people, which would be connected to Germany by a four-lane highway and gigantic bridges linking Scandinavia to the European mainland.

At the same time, Raeder submitted a memo to Hitler complaining that Plan Z fleet was not large enough, and instead called for an expanded Plan Z fleet of 80 battleships, 15-20 carriers, 100 heavy cruisers, 115 light cruisers, 500 U-boats, and 250 destroyers.

Once Barbarossa was completed with the destruction of the Soviet Union later in 1941, Raeder's " Mediterranean plan " would be executed in 1942 while German industry would focus on building the fleet envisioned in the Z Plan, that would, when complete, carry out Raeder's programme of trans-oceanic expansionism.

Under direction of the newly appointed Commander in Chief of the Combined Fleet, Admiral Soemu Toyoda, a finalized plan for the new conditional ' offensive '— dubbed " Plan A-Go ", or " Operation A-Go "— was adopted in early June 1944, then within weeks, quickly adapted to trap the American fleet now detected heading for Saipan.

As part of the Remedial Plan Notice, First Great Western was required to achieve improvement milestones, to lease five more Class 150 units to allow three-car trains to be used on Portsmouth-Cardiff services, to undertake a much more extensive refurbishment of the Thames Turbo fleet, to offer 50 % higher compensation for the duration of the franchise, to offer 500, 000 more cheap tickets on off-peak services, and to improve station customer information systems.

Ellis produced the prophetic document, " Operation Plan 712-Advanced Base Operations in Micronesia ", which underlined that in the event of hostilities with Japan, advanced bases would be required to support the fleet.

Since the fleet envisioned in the Z Plan was considerably larger than that allowed by the 35: 100 ratio in the A. G. N. A, the Z Plan made it inevitable that Germany would renounce the A. G. N. A.

The telemovie Battlestar Galactica: The Plan reveals that, after the photo was discovered to be fake, the Number One on board Galactica who was coordinating Cylon efforts made her enter an airlock and be killed so her resurrected form could give Galactica's coordinates to the Cylon fleet.

The ultimate fate of Tough Six is unknown, whether she was captured and executed or remained in the fleet until New Caprica, as she is not seen in The Plan following her exit from Cavil's bedroom and did not appear in regular episodes.
