The club have had a few brushes with glory in the 1998 / 99 season they won the Sectional League Cup Final beating Ballieston 5-0 at Motherwells Fir Park, the 2002 / 2003 season they came within goal difference of winning the newly formed Super League losing out to Pollok Fc and the 2005 / 06 season they won the Super League First Division and the Sectional League Cup Final beating East Kilbride Thistle on penalties after a 0-0 draw at Partick Thistle's Firhill Stadium.

Spartans most recent cup run sent them to Pollok, winning through a replay, Annan Athletic winning 2 – 1, Elgin City again winning 2 – 1 and finally being knocked out by Airdrie United in the fourth round.

Pollok performed admirably against the Scottish League club, achieving a 2 – 2 draw at Links Park.

In early 2008 a campaign to " Save Pollok Park " had to be formed, protesting against outdoor adventure company Go Ape.

A successful run to the final of the 2008 – 09 Scottish Junior Cup saw Clydebank defeat Petershill and Pollok, before falling at the final hurdle by two goals to one against Auchinleck Talbot.

He was significantly, and controversially, involved in the campaign against abortion, co-sponsoring an ultimately unsuccessful private member's bill introduced by his friend and colleague, James White, MP for Glasgow Pollok, to tighten the requirements of the Abortion Act 1967.

When Welsh and Fanny arrived in New York on 29 March 1913, Pollok was there orchestrating the reporters and photographers.

With his weight now coming down and his bank account swelled, Welsh and Pollok refocused on Ritchie.

Pollok and Welsh then took a major gamble.

Welsh and Pollok set off for Britain on the Imperator, and on his arrival on 12 June, he told reporters that he had received news from Fanny of the birth of his first child, Elizabeth.

On 11 October 1919, Welsh was the only diner in a restaurant on 50th and Broadway, when by complete coincidence Harry Pollok walked in.

Welsh denied the charges and after Pollok failed to appear to press the charge for a third time, the case was dismissed.

The name ' Pollock ' is Celtic from Pollog, " people who live by a pool ", and Robert de Steinton ( Stenton in East Lothian ) and his brother Peter appear to have been given land by the FitzAlan family in return for armed support, and perhaps changed their name and abode to Robert de Pollok, and Peter or Petrus de Pollok.

Some of the ruins were dynamited in the 70s and a large prefabricated house erected on the castle foundations by Mr Greer who purchase Pollok Castle Estate from Glasgow council.

Bell's patent was also disputed in 1888 by attorney Lysander Hill who accused Wilber of allowing Bell or his lawyer Pollok to add a handwritten margin note of seven sentences to Bell's application that describe an alternate design similar to Gray's liquid microphone design.

This was fiercely opposed by environmentalists, who set up a road protest camp, as it meant that the motorway would cut through the historic Pollok Country Park.

Others in the frame for Labour were former teacher and current Councillor Irene Graham ; voluntary sector worker Archie Graham, who is also the husband of Glasgow Pollok MSP Johann Lamont ; and Manjinder Singh Shergill, a business analyst with ScottishPower.

In terms of sport, Newlands plays host to top Junior side Pollok FC who play at Newlandsfield Park, regularly attracting crowds of over 500.

Keith Baldasarra, was elected for the Pollok ward of Glasgow City Council and Jim Bollan was elected to serve on West Dunbartonshire Council.

Born in the then burgh of Pollokshaws ( now Pollok, Glasgow ) in 1885, James Maxton was the son of two schoolteachers.

The captain of the 2006 – 07 season was to be former St. Mirren, Kilwinning Rangers and Pollok defender Roland Fabiani

The top league of the new set up was the West Premier League which Pollok have won 4 times in 8 seasons, more than any other club.

The main features of the area are the nearby park, Pollok Country Park, and the adjacent Crookston Castle where Mary, Queen of Scots, was once held.

Pollok was later divided into Upper and Nether Pollok.

There is a Clan Pollock Society in the United States, and the 11th President of the United States ( 1844 – 1849 ) was James Polk ( 1795 – 1849 ), descended from Pollok ancestors.

Pollok House is a Georgian building with many finer paintings, and Pollok Country Park was chosen to house the " Burrell Collection " in a modern contemporary and clean air green space.

The castle was demolished and rebuilt as a large stately house 1686by Sir Robert Pollok.

It was completely destroyed by fire in 1882 ( after remaining empty for some while ) and then rebuilt again shortly after in the Scottish Baronial style, incorporating some of the surviving elements of the earlier structure, by Mrs Ferguson Pollok of that Ilk.

The prefabricated house was removed and the site cleared in the early 1990s and the castle was again rebuilt in 2003, in the Scottish Adam style by Alex Hewitt and renamed Pollok Castle House.

In the April 1974 general election ( Glasgow Pollok constituency ), Lang was defeated by James White ( Labour ).

On May 30, 2007, he was traded from the Los Angeles Dodgers to the Chicago White Sox for Dwayne Pollok.

It is a conservation area which was developed in Victorian times according to a plan promoted by the original landowners, the Stirling-Maxwells of Pollok, whose association with the area goes as far back as 1270.

The ground for Maxwell Park was given by Sir John Stirling-Maxwell of Nether Pollok in 1888, and the park was formally opened at the same time.

The yew was felled in 1816, and a model of Crookston Castle, now on display in Pollok House, was carved from its wood.

The castle passed through several owners, until in 1757 it was sold by William Graham, 2nd Duke of Montrose to the Maxwells of Pollok.

The club eventually rose to prominence upon the demise of Third Lanark in 1967 with many supporters opting to support Pollok, being in close proximity on the south side of Glasgow.

Prior to this Pollok had been champions of the Central league 8 times.

At the start of the season they were eliminated in the second round from the 2008 – 09 Scottish Cup by Edinburgh based East Of Scotland team Spartans F. C .. At the end of the season Pollok had a chance once again to retain their West Premier League championship but lost the last league game of the season away to Auchinleck Talbot by failing to defend a 1-0 lead in the last 8 minutes.

In 1990, Pollok had a population of approximately 300 and three businesses.

The party polled very well at the Pollok by-election, winning some 28 % of the votes cast in a consitituency where they had never stood before.

Eventually, when the Pollok Estate was gifted to the city in 1967, the Trustees had certain terms of the deed waived, which allowed the current site, 3 miles ( 5 km ) from the city centre and within the city boundaries, to be chosen for the collection.
