The incarnation consisting of Jansch, McShee, Portman Smith, Kirtley and Conway survived almost as long as the original Pentangle and recorded three albums: Think of Tomorrow, One More Road and Live 1994.

After three seasons of mid-table finishes, the fourth brought further success to Portman Road as Ramsey guided the Blues to the Second Division title and into the top flight for the first time in the club's history.

In 2000, a statue of Ramsey was erected on the corner of the street named after him and Portman Road, at the North Stand / Cobbold Stand corner of the stadium.

On 31 March 2012, the South Stand at Portman Road was renamed to the Sir Alf Ramsey Stand.

His Reds début came on 13 December that year in a First Division fixture at Portman Road against Ipswich Town.

Portman Road is an association football stadium in Ipswich, Suffolk, England.

Ipswich played their early matches at Broomhill Park, but in 1884, the club moved to Portman Road and have played there ever since.

Gates made his debut for Ipswich Town as an eighteen year old on the 27th October 1973 at Portman Road replacing Roger Osborne during a 2-0 victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers in front of a crowd of 20, 882.

Highlights of Gates time at Ipswich Town include both goals in a 2-1 over FC Barcelona at Portman Road in the first leg of the 1979 Cup Winners Cup quarter final, as well as the 1978 FA Cup Final although he did not feature in the final.
