The term derives from the ethnic slur " kraut ", and its use by the music press was inspired by a track from Amon Düül's Psychedelic Underground titled " Mama Düül und Ihre Sauerkrautband Spielt Auf " (' Mama Düül and her Sauerkrautband Strike Up ').

During their first five years Gobber, Psi and Angstrom became known as one of the UK's first live ' acid house ' acts, during this time they developed a sound which ( later ) became known as Psychedelic trance although at the time they were often described as producing Ambient or Shamanic Trance music.

In 1989 when Fzono stayed in New York, he formed an Trance music Unit Psychedelic Plants Research Laboratory with various musicians and performers, and held a series of live performances titled Multimedia Visionquest that featured Trance music and ethnic music, video drug, dancers, open fire etc.

Bubbles also maintained his freelance output, producing designs for Peter Jenner ( Ian Dury and Billy Bragg's manager ), and others, creating a prodigious output by working for such bands, musicians and performers as Vivian Stanshall, Generation X, Big Star, Johnny Moped, Whirlwind, Billy Bragg, Clover, The Sinceros, Roger Chapman, Phillip Goodhand-Tait, Dr. Feelgood, Inner City Unit and The Psychedelic Furs.

The International Artists record label in Houston, also home to contemporary Texas underground groups such as Red Krayola and Bubble Puppy, signed the Elevators to a record contract and released the album The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators in November 1966, which became popular among the burgeoning counterculture.

They had also written a song called Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast about a roadie, appearing on their 1970 album Atom Heart Mother.

Symbolism, Surrealism and Psychedelic art are also direct precursors to contemporary visionary art.

In 1996, a documentary was released entitled The Life and Times of the Red Dog Saloon ( also known as Rockin ' at the Red Dog: The Dawn of Psychedelic Rock ), in which the surviving members of the Charlatans ( Ferguson died in 1979 from complications from diabetes ) were interviewed about their heady days at the Red Dog.

Some of the most successful post punk bands in the 1970s, such as Siouxsie and the Banshees and The Psychedelic Furs, also continued their success during the 1980s.

In 2008, the band toured as part of " The Psychedelic Shack Tour ", which also featured a reformed Nazz, Vince Martell and, on occasion, Henry Gross.

The space hopper lent its name and face to the Birmingham Psychedelic trance parties that ran from the mid-nineties to 2000, and also appeared at the Glastonbury festival.

In addition to those affiliations, Kimock also toured and recorded with Jerry Joseph's Little Women ( 1988 ), with Henry Kaiser and Freddy Roulette as The Psychedelic Guitar Circus ( 1993 ), and as Steve Kimock & Friends ( early 1990s ).
