His later 1970s albums ( with the exception of Jazz, which explored ragtime / vaudeville ) do not fall under a single genre description, but his self-titled first album could be described as blues ; Into the Purple Valley, Boomer's Story, and Paradise and Lunch as folk and blues ; Chicken Skin Music and Showtime as a mix of Tex-Mex and Hawaiian ; Bop Till You Drop as 1950s ' R & B ; and Borderline and Get Rhythm as rock-based.

The BBC, buoyed by the success of the Concerto, commissioned him to write another piece and the resulting " Gemini Suite " was performed by Deep Purple and the Light Music Society under Malcolm Arnold at the Royal Festival Hall in September 1970, and then in Munich with the Kammerorchester conducted by Eberhard Schoener in January 1972.

Kronos has also recorded adaptations of Jimi Hendrix's " Purple Haze ", Sigur Rós's " Flugufrelsarinn ", Television's " Marquee Moon ", Raymond Scott's " Dinner Music for a Pack of Hungry Cannibals ", and Bob Dylan's " Don't Think Twice, It's All Right ".

D12 released the album Devil's Night in 2001 and D12 World in 2004, spawning numerous hits such as " Fight Music ", " Purple Pills ", " My Band ", " How Come " and " Shit on You " throughout that period.

The two albums ' hit singles included " Purple Pills ", " Fight Music ", " My Band ", and " How Come ".

This was augmented by lucrative licencing deals with American and international labels including Sire, Vertigo and Island Records ( 1975 – 1982 ) that gave WBR the American distribution rights for leading British and European rock acts including Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, Black Sabbath, Roxy Music, King Crimson and Kraftwerk.

The album features many of Moore's friends including Deep Purple bassist / vocalist Glenn Hughes, Paul Thompson of Roxy Music and Phil Lynott from Thin Lizzy.

A reunited Deep Purple were also due to appear from Switzerland via satellite, but pulled out after guitarist Ritchie Blackmore refused to take part in the event.

On March 21, 2012 Ian Paice was playing a gig with the Deep Purple tribute band Purpendicular in Pratteln, Switzerland.

Original Deep Purple drummer Ian Paice has played with members of Deep Purple tribute band Purpendicular in 2002, 2004 and 2007, and the whole band in December 2008 & March 2012 ( which included a surprise appearance of Original Deep Purple Bassist Roger Glover in Switzerland ) on European tours.

Reconstruction of the Purple machine was based on ideas of Larry Clark.

Letters to Miss Celie in the movie The Color Purple ( film ) by Steven Spielberg, based on the novel The Color Purple by Alice Walker, are addressed to " Hartwell County, Georgia " suggesting that the movie is set either in Hartwell or Hart County.

Deep Purple developed a sound based on " squeezing and stretching " the blues, and achieved their commercial breakthrough with their fourth and distinctively heavier album, In Rock ( 1970 ), which has been seen as one of one of heavy metal's defining albums.

The Japanese Foreign Office used a locally developed electrical stepping switch based system ( called Purple by the US ), and also had used several similar machines for attaches in some Japanese embassies.

As of May 2006, the label is based back in Sydney ( after six years in NSW's central west and a year in outer Melbourne ) where it continues to release contemporary Australian music as well as a series of re-issues by bands from the 1960s ( like The Missing Links, The Purple Hearts and the Wild Cherries ).

In 1970, Deep Purple released their single Black Night, whose riff was based on the bassline from Ricky Nelson's recording of " Summertime ".

He very nearly succeeded, even making her an honorary Power Ranger, and based upon her clothing, she could have been the first Purple Ranger.

Uematsu has stated that the intro of " One-Winged Angel " is based on Jimi Hendrix's " Purple Haze ", and that the song revolves around the image of Sephiroth and despite the chorus and orchestra, he still thinks of the song as a " rock piece ".

Hendrix borrowed a Fender Telecaster from Noel Redding to record " Hey Joe " and " Purple Haze ", used a white Gibson SG Custom for his performances on The Dick Cavett Show in the summer of 1969, and the Isle of Wight film shows him playing his second Gibson Flying V. While Jimi had previously owned a Flying V that he had painted with a psychedelic design, the Flying V used at the Isle of Wight was a unique custom left-handed guitar with gold plated hardware, a bound fingerboard and " split-diamond " fret markers that were not found on other 1960s-era Flying Vs.

Another related label was Citation Records, " a Scepter Records subsidiary / series that featured a fake gold record on every cover, advertising the ' best of ' ( Joe ) Tex, Flip Wilson, Deep Purple, Wilson Pickett, the Isley Brothers, and anything else they could lease ( or own the rights to ).

This still holds the record and is tied with The Color Purple for this record.
