The national park covers most of Bellenden Ker Range and includes Queensland's two highest mountains, Mount Bartle Frere ( 1622 m ) and Mount Bellenden Ker ( 1592 m ).

It rises on Mount Superbus, South East Queensland's highest peak, on the inland side of the Great Dividing Range and although only about 100 km from the Queensland coast, the Condamine flows north west across the Darling Downs, then west.

The Electoral district of Hervey Bay has the Queensland's second highest share of residents aged over 60.

The Port of Gladstone is Queensland's largest multi-commodity port and the fifth largest multi-commodity port in Australia.
