Aeronautical rescue and associated aircraft coordination is carried out by the UK Aeronautical Rescue Coordination Centre ( ARCC ) based at RAF Kinloss in the north of Scotland.

In 2005, RAF Lossiemouth along with its neighbour RAF Kinloss contributed £ 156. 5 million ( including civilian expenditure ) to the Moray economy, of which £ 76. 6 million was retained and spent locally.

Although in 2010 the closure of RAF Kinloss had a massive impact on these numbers.

No. 206 Squadron was a Royal Air Force unit employed, until 2005, in the maritime patrol role with the Nimrod MR. 2 at RAF Kinloss, Moray.

Reformed yet again on 27 September 1952 on Avro Shackletons, the squadron moved to RAF Kinloss in 1965 and was equipped with Hawker-Siddeley Nimrods in 1970.

The Nimrod MRA4 was due to be moved to the base from RAF Kinloss, but the whole fleet was cancelled.

Leuchars will be converted to a British Army base and with RAF Kinloss set for the same fate, RAF Lossiemouth will be the only operational RAF base in Scotland by the mid-2010s.

Kinloss Barracks is a former Royal Air Force station ( RAF Kinloss ), located near the village of Kinloss, on the Moray Firth in the north of Scotland.

This meant that Kinloss was no longer required by the RAF.

On 26 July 2012 at 1200 the RAF Ensign was lowered for the last time, and replaced by the flag of 39 Engineer Regiment ( Air Support ), Royal Engineers, to become Kinloss Barracks.

The wartime Avro Lancaster was adapted without great upheaval for anti-submarine and search and rescue duties and RAF Kinloss changed from a bomber training unit, to a Coastal Command base training maritime aircrew.

In November 1980 two pilots, Royal Australian Air Force Flight Lieutenant Noel Anthony and RAF Flying Officer Stephen Belcher were killed when their aircraft struck birds on take off and crashed in woods to the east of Kinloss airfield.

An additional four non-nuclear rounds were produced for various RAF requirements, and there were 16 other unspecified training rounds.

Four Czech and Slovak-manned RAF squadrons were transferred to Czechoslovak control in late 1945.

In World War II, the USAAF and RAF often favored fighters over dedicated light bombers or dive bombers, and types such as the P-47 Thunderbolt and Hawker Hurricane that were no longer competitive fighters were relegated to ground attack.

Inevitably, both the Bomber B and Amerika Bomber programs were victims of the continued emphasis of the Wehrmacht's insistence for the Luftwaffe to support the Army as its primary mission, as well as the increasingly devastating results of the RAF Bomber Command at night, and by 1943 the USAAF's Eighth and Fifteenth Air Forces ' heavy bomber raids by daylight on the German aviation industry, which catastrophically diminished the Third Reich's overall aviation production capacity later in World War II.

Deliveries of new aircraft were insufficient to meet the drain on resources ; the Luftwaffe, unlike the RAF, was failing to expand its pilot and aircraft numbers.

There were three successive incarnations of the organization, the " first generation " which consisted of Baader and his associates, the " second generation " RAF, which operated in the mid to late 1970s after several former members of the Socialist Patients ' Collective joined, and the " third generation " RAF, which existed in the 1980s and 1990s.

But RAF organisation and outlook were also partly modeled on the Uruguayan Tupamaros movement, which had developed as an urban resistance movement, effectively inverting Che Guevara's Mao-like concept of a peasant or rural-based guerrilla war and instead situating the struggle in the metropole or cities.

The BCATP provided an enormous and continuing economic boost, particularly in the Western provinces that were still recovering from the decade long depression. However, in a Channel 4 documentary aired 3 June 2011, reporter Nick Cook showed an RAF pilot's report, obtained from RAF archives, reporting a UFO incident with a similar red ball of fire on a bombing mission over Germany, but dated 1942 and taken with fact that the term was already in use by radar operators in 1944, must raise some doubt as to the origin of the term

" A RAF Intelligence report in late October 1940 circulated to all pilots and their squadrons, with copies to Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, and the War Cabinet, declared: ' The manoeuvrability of the CR. 42s, in particular their capacity to execute an extremely tight half roll, has caused considerable surprise to other pilots and undoubtedly saved many Italian fighters from destruction.

" As the RAF intelligence report stated, the Falchi were hard targets.

The Balfour report of 1921, the Geddes Axe of 1922 and the Salisbury Committee of 1923 all found in favour of the RAF despite lobbying from the Admiralty and opposition in Parliament.

In response to the concerns raised by the Butt report, Cherwell produced his dehousing paper ( first circulated on 30 March 1942 ), which proposed that by area bombing, instead of precision bombing, the deficiencies of the RAF could be mitigated.
