Raja Tridiv Roy ( 14 May 1933-17 Sept 2012 ) was a former Raja of the Chakma tribe in the Chittagong Hill Tracts region of Bangladesh who chose to remain a Pakistani when Bangladesh was created in 1971.

Raja Tridiv Roy is a former Chakma king who has served as a minister in Government of Pakistan.

The High Commissioner of Sri Lanka, General Srilal Weerasooriya, on behalf of the President, had conferred the emblems of the Sri Lankan Ranjana National Award on Federal Minister Raja Tridiv Roy in 2005.

Among other books, Raja Tridiv Roy published his memoirs entitled The Departed Melody.

From about 1812, the Bengali reformer Raja Rammohan Roy started his own campaign against the practice.

Raja Ram Mohan Roy estimated that there were ten times as many cases of Sati in Bengal compared to the rest of the country.

Akbar Shah II appointed the Bengali reformer Ram Mohan Roy, to appeal against his treatment by the East India Company, Ram Mohan Roy then visited England, as the Mughal envoy to the Court of St. James, conferring on him the title of Raja.

The first newspaper of this type was Bengal Gazette, started in 1816 by Gangadhar Bhattacharya, a disciple of Raja Rammohan Roy.

Based on the pattern of Digdarshan, Raja Rammohan Roy brought out Bengali and Urdu weeklies like Bangadoota and Mirat-ul-Akhbar.

It was founded by Raja Ram Mohan Roy, and a number of other eminent personalities of Bengal, such as Raja Radhakanta Deb, Maharaja Tejchandra Ray of Burdwan, David Hare, Justice Sir Edward Hyde East, Prasanna Coomar Tagore and Babu Buddinath Mukherjee.

The first session of the National Assembly, due to the delay caused by the separation of East Pakistan, was held on 14thApril 1972 at the State Bank Building, Islamabad, in which all 144 Members from West Pakistan and two from former East Pakistan ( Mr. Noor-ul-Amin and Raja Tridev Roy who had chosen to join Pakistan ) participated.

His movement the Brahmo Samaj was formed in 1843 by merging his Tattwabodhini Sabha with the Brahmo Sabha, ten years after the death of the latter's founder, Raja Ram Mohan Roy.

A number of Indians were elected members including Dwarakanath Tagore, Sivchandra Das, Maharaja Baidyanath Roy, Maharaja Bunwari Govind Roy, Raja Kalikrishna Bahadur, Rajchunder Das and Prasanna Kumar Tagore.

While people like Raja Ram Mohan Roy ( 1772 – 1833 ) were beginning to articulate elements of these political arguments, no one was in a position to explore and articulate new insights.

As well as Raja Ram Mohan Roy, other contributors to political thought on freedom in 19th century India included Dadabhai Naoroji ( 1825 – 1917 ), Mahadeo Govind Ranade ( 1842 – 1901 ), Gopal Krishna Gokhale ( 1866 – 1915 ) and Pherozeshah Mehta ( 1845 – 1915 ).

Raja ( also spelled rajah, from Sanskrit ) is an Indian term for a monarch, or princely ruler of the Kshatriya varna.
