Ransom Canyon is a town in Lubbock County of West Texas, United States.

Ransom Canyon has some unusually designed homes, including the Lawson Rock House and the Steel House, both designed by Robert R. Bruno ( 1945-2008 ).

Ransom Canyon lies in the south eastern part of famed Yellow House Canyon, which is in the upper tributary of the Double Mountain Fork of the Brazos River.

Ransom Canyon derives its name from the older designation, Cañon de Rescate, " Canyon of Ransom "; for it was in this region that Spanish and Anglo traders negotiated with the Comanches for the return of the hostages.

The town of Ransom Canyon is located within Yellow House Canyon, at the eastern edge of the Llano Estacado.

This stream has been dammed multiple times to form Buffalo Springs Lake and Lake Ransom Canyon.

Carl Ransom Rogers ( January 8, 1902 – February 4, 1987 ) was an influential American psychologist and among the founders of the humanistic approach to psychology.

Ransom Eli Olds ' home, which once overlooked the factories along Washington Avenue, was displaced by I-496.

REO was initiated by Ransom E. Olds during August 1904.

It was founded by Ransom E. Olds in 1897.

The first known European settler of Houghton was named Ransom Shelden, who set up a store named Ransom's near Portage Lake, though it is unclear whether this was in the same building as the 1852 Shelden and Shafer drugs, sometimes described as " the first commercial building constructed in Houghton ," which Shelden owned with his son Ransom B.

Amboy Township was formed by an act of the Michigan Legislature on March 28, 1850, from Woodbridge Township and Ransom Township out of the partial survey townships 9 south ranges 2 and 3 west and the southern tier of sections from survey township 8 south ranges 2 and 3 west.

While it was still a part of Ransom Township ( and then known as Rowland Township after the pioneer settler Rowland Bird ), a post office was established named Rowland on December 12, 1840.

Ransom E. Olds, the founder and head of the Olds Motor Vehicle Company that was the foundation for the later establishment of Oldsmobile by General Motors Corporation, built a grand summer estate on Elba Island in 1916, which caught fire due to electrical mishaps in 2005, however was restored by the current owner and still stands today.

Organization of Ransom Township was approved by the Nobles County Board on September 3, 1872.

Thus, on July 10, 1873, the name was officially changed to Ransom Township in honor of Ransom Humiston, agent for the National Colony, which brought large groups of settlers to Worthington from 1872 until 1876.

In 1914 their church was completed with a tall steeple and named Our Lady of Ransom.

One of the first settlers ( 1799 ) in the town was Asa Ransom, who has given his name to several locations.

The Ransom House, which once stood near the corner of Main St. and Coal St., was an example of New England domestic architecture brought to Plymouth by Connecticut settlers.
