The lead vocals were performed by special guest Gruff Rhys of the Super Furry Animals with James Dean Bradfield explaining to the audience that Rhys had been set to perform the song at the bands 2001 performance in Havana, Cuba but that circimstances had prevented this from happening.

Band of Susans also performed, with Rhys Chatham as a warmup " group ," at The Kitchen on 19th Street, in the early ' 80s ( perhaps 1981-82 ) as part of a " performance art " piece.

On stage, Rhys has won several notices including an LA Weekly ensemble award for his performance in Dario Fo's " The Devil With Boobs " and a Drama-Logue Award for playing a laid back Texan in the Los Angeles stage production of " Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean.

With extra time fast approaching, Llanelli had Rhys Griffiths and Craig Moses sent off, somewhat controversially.

Since the death of Owain Gwynedd in 1170, Rhys ap Gruffydd had made the southern kingdom of Deheubarth the strongest of the Welsh kingdoms, and had established himself as the leader of Pura Wallia.

He was a son-in-law of the Lord Rhys, who nevertheless expelled him from his former base at nearby Nevern, which had been established by his father Robert fitz Martin.

Henry invaded Deheubarth in 1163, stripped Rhys of all his lands and took him prisoner.

Rhys retreated to Cantref Mawr, where an army led by five earls, the Earls of Cornwall, Gloucester, Hertford, Pembroke and Salisbury, marched against him.

Henry appears to have been uncertain what to do with Rhys, but after a few weeks decided to free him and allow him to rule Cantref Mawr.

Rhys did not oblige at the time, but released him the following year and in 1169 Fitz-Stephen led the vanguard of a Norman army which landed in Wexford.

The departure of the Norman lords enabled Rhys to strengthen his position, and the death of Owain Gwynedd in late 1170 left him as the acknowledged leader of the Welsh princes.

Henry now wished to make peace with Rhys, who came to Newnham to meet him.

When Henry's sons rebelled against him in 1173 Rhys sent his son Hywel Sais to Normandy to aid the king, then in 1174 personally led an army to Tutbury in Staffordshire to assist at the siege of the stronghold of the rebel Earl William de Ferrers.

He persuaded Rhys to raise the siege of Carmarthen and accompany him to Oxford to meet Richard.

Rhys arrived at Oxford to discover that Richard was not prepared to travel there to meet him, and hostilities continued.

In 1194 Rhys was defeated in battle by Maelgwn and Hywel, who imprisoned him in Nevern castle, though Hywel later released his father without Maelgwn's consent.

Rhys was buried in St David's Cathedral, where an effigy said to be of him, but of a descendant of nearly 200 years later, can still be seen.

Giraldus Cambrensis frequently mentions Rhys in his writings and describes him as " a man of excellent wit and quick in repartee ".

Map was less favourably disposed towards Rhys, describing him as " This king I have seen and know, and hate ", but goes on to say " I would not have my hatred blacken his worth ; it is not my wish ever to suppress any man's excellence through envy ".

When Henry Tudor landed in Pembrokeshire, Wales in 1485 to make a bid for the throne, his descent from Rhys was one of the factors which enabled him to attract Welsh support ( Henry flew a ( Welsh ) dragon banner at the battle of Bosworth Field ).

In 1053 Edward ordered the assassination of the south Welsh prince, Rhys ap Rhydderch in reprisal for a raid on England, and Rhys's head was delivered to him.

In 1171 Rhys met King Henry II and came to an agreement with him whereby Rhys had to pay a tribute but was confirmed in all his conquests and was later named Justiciar of South Wales.

Some scholars, most prominently Kyle Gann, consider him ( and Rhys Chatham ) to be a member of the totalist school of post-minimalism.

He met the poet Lynette Roberts ( whose poem " Llanybri " is an invitation to him to visit her home ), but she was married to another poet, Keidrych Rhys.

The terms were much harsher than those offered to Owain: Rhys was stripped of all his possessions apart from Cantref Mawr, though he was promised one other cantref.

Rosamund probably first met the King when he passed by Clifford Castle in 1163 during one of his campaigns in Wales against Rhys ap Gruffydd.
