The Stock Car Speed Association ASCAR or Days of Thunder was a " Nascar " style racing series based at Rockingham, United Kingdom, though the series did also race at the Lausitzring in Germany as well.

Rockingham resigned as Lord of the Bedchamber on 3 November 1762 in protest at the King's policies and other Whigs associated with the Duke of Newcastle did the same.

Governor Alexander Spotswood's legendary Knights of the Golden Horseshoe Expedition of 1716 crossed the Blue Ridge at Swift Run Gap and reached the river at Elkton, VA. Cumberland's final years were lived out during the first years of the reign of his nephew, George III, who acceded to the throne on the death of William's father on 25 October 1760: Cumberland became a very influential advisor to the King and was instrumental in establishing the First Rockingham Ministry.

The march of the Jacobite army into northern England caused the Wentworth household to flee to Doncaster and Rockingham rode from Wentworth to Carlisle to join the Duke of Cumberland in pursuit of the " Young Pretender ".

Rockingham wrote to his father that Cumberland " blamed me for my disobedience, yet as I came with a design of saving my King and country ... it greatly palliated my offence ".

Rockingham wrote to Augustus Keppel on 3 November 1779, saying that he believed the war against American could not be won, that the government was corrupt but not unpopular, and that the longer this continued the greater the danger to the liberties and the constitution of Britain: " Perhaps a total change of men and measures, & system in the Government: of this country might have effect on the councils of some foreign countries ... who might think that it was no longer a Court system to combat, but that the whole nation wd ; united & make the utmost efforts ".

Burke wrote to him on 3 July 1782: " You are Lord Rockingham in every thing.

He wrote to Rockingham that the troop movement was likely to be problematic, and the government and other reforms were more likely to succeed.

Edmund Burke wrote to Fitzwilliam on 3 July 1782: " You are Lord Rockingham in every thing.

With the mass-resignation from the Whig Club of Burke and other conservative Whig MPs, Fitzwilliam wrote to Lady Rockingham on 28 February 1793 and spoke of the Whig party split into three factions: those who wholeheartedly support the Revolution ; those who wholeheartedly condemn it, support the government and wish for a war to destroy it ; and the third ( which Fitzwilliam identified with ) " thinking French principles ... wicked and formidable, are ready to resist them " by supporting the government's " measures of vigour " but " engaging for nothing further ".

On 6 December he wrote to Lady Rockingham:

In April 1746 Rockingham's father was made a marquis ( remaining the only marquis in the British peerage for quite some time ) and Rockingham himself assumed the courtesy title of Earl of Malton.

When in Herrenhausen, Hanover Rockingham met George II and made an impression: the King told Rockingham's uncle Henry Finch that he had never seen a finer or a more promising youth.

Associated with the aristocratic Whig party of Lord Rockingham, Portland served as Lord Chamberlain of the Household in Rockingham's first Government ( 1765 – 1766 ) and then as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland in Rockingham's second ministry ( April – August 1782 ); he resigned from Lord Shelburne's ministry along with other supporters of Charles James Fox following Rockingham's death.

Whether Wentworth influenced Rockingham's decision is uncertain, but New Hampshire's other agent, Barlow Trecothick, drafted with Rockingham a position paper on the matter, and Wentworth was clearly sympathetic to colonial opposition to the Stamp Act.

Rockingham's unexpected death in July 1782 led to a split in the new government with some Rockingham Whigs remaining in office under the new government of Lord Shelburne, and others going into opposition led by Charles James Fox and Edmund Burke.

After Rockingham's death, the Duke of Portland became the head of the Rockingham Whig party.
