In 1890, the Third Imperial Guard of the Imperial Japanese Army was moved to a site near Roppongi ( now home to the Pacific bureau of Stars and Stripes ).

Roppongi was administratively part of Azabu Ward from 1878 to 1947.

Murakami has also collaborated with a wide range of creators and industries in Japan, a prominent example being the image characters he created for the press relations campaign of the major urban real estate development Roppongi Hills.

The incidents resulted in the United States embassy in Japan warning US citizens to avoid certain bars and clubs in Roppongi.

Similar complaints are often made about non-Nigerian bars in Roppongi that offer unlimited drink packages and often lace drinks with hard liquor to minimize customer consumption and increase profit.

Mori Building Company and The Pokémon Company have their headquarters in the Roppongi Hills Mori Tower.

A number of multinational firms have their Japanese offices in Roppongi, including investment banks Credit Suisse, Goldman Sachs, State Street, manufacturer Corning Incorporated, and law firms Allen & Overy, Davis Polk & Wardwell, Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom.

In December 1983 the headquarters of Bandai Visual moved to Roppongi.

In June 1984 the headquarters moved to another building in Roppongi.

Roppongi High School is located in Roppongi.

The Stranglers were the only foreign band to take part in a landmark scene focussed around S-KEN Studio in Roppongi, and The Loft venues in Shinjuku and Shimokitazawa from 1977 to 1979.
