Though silk was certainly the major trade item from China, many other goods were traded, and various technologies, religions and philosophies, as well as the bubonic plague ( the " Black Death "), also traveled along the Silk Routes.

The largest is Rockville with a population of about 2, 600 ; located near the center of the county at the intersections of U. S. Routes 36 and 41, it is also the county seat.

Shandon is also at the junction of State Routes 41 and 46, at the southwestern portion of the stretch where the two highways merge for approximately six miles.

* The Bridges – A location at the Oak Orchard River and Marsh Creek, also known as " Three Bridges ," referring to the bridges that carry Routes NY-98 and NY-18 over the river.

* Covington – A hamlet, also known as Covington Center, located at Routes 246 and 19.

U. S. Route 33 is the main street in Russells Point, and State Routes 366 and 708 are also important.

Both Routes 37 and 113 provides direct service with the Harrah's Philadelphia Racetrack and Casino located within the city, with the Route 113 also providing service to the Philadelphia Union's PPL Park soccer-specific stadium on the city's waterfront.

Narberth is also served by Route 1, City Avenue, traveling north and south, and is easily accessible to Routes 76, the Schuylkill Expressway east and west, and 476, the Philadelphia bypass nicknamed the " Blue Route ", traveling south and north between Chester and Interstate 95 in the south and Plymouth Meeting, Germantown, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike traveling east and west.

Milan is at the junction of U. S. Routes 45E and 79 ( also known as U. S. Route 70A ).
