* The cathedral ( dedicated to Saint Castor of Apt, a native of the city ), occupying, it is believed, the site of the temple of Augustus, is partly Romanesque and partly Gothic in style.

A popular Roman legend had the Dioscuri ( Castor and Pollux ) helping in the victory, transfigured as two young horsemen, and Postumius ordered a temple built to them in the Roman Forum, in the place in which they were watering their horses.

Theodosius I founded the Church of John the Baptist to house the skull of the saint ( today preserved at the Topkapı Palace in Istanbul, Turkey ), put up a memorial pillar to himself in the Forum of Taurus, and turned the ruined temple of Aphrodite into a coach house for the Praetorian Prefect ; Arcadius built a new forum named after himself on the Mese, near the walls of Constantine.

This is reflected in the legend of the coming of Orestes to Nemi and of the inhumation of his bones in the Roman Forum near the temple of Saturn.

She was also associated with the sea harbors and ports, and had a temple on the Forum Boarium.

By the time of Augustus there were public libraries near the forums of Rome: there were libraries in the Porticus Octaviae near the Theatre of Marcellus, in the temple of Apollo Palatinus, and in the Bibliotheca Ulpiana in the Forum of Trajan.

In Roman mythology, Appias was one of the Crinaeae, a naiad who lived in the Appian Well outside the temple to Venus Genitrix in the Roman Forum.

Jupiter turned her into a water nymph and gave her a sacred well in Lavinium, Latium, as well as another one near the temple to Vesta in the Forum Romanum.

In 46 B. C., the Roman Senate voted to build and dedicate a shrine to Libertas in recognition of Julius Caesar, but no temple was built ; instead, a small statue of the goddess stood in the Roman Forum.

His attribute was a key and his main temple in the city of Rome, the Temple of Portunus, was to be found in the Forum Boarium.

The relationship between the two gods is underlined by the fact that the date chosen for the dedication of the rebuilt temple of Janus in the Forum Holitorium by emperor Tiberius is the day of the Portunalia, August 17.

Most outrageous to the People was when Opimius celebrated his victory by building a temple to Concord in the Forum with the Senate's approval.

From Forum Flaminii the Flaminia went on to Nuceria Camellaria ( Nocera Umbra ) — whence a branch road ran to Septempeda and thence either to Ancona or to Tolentinum ( Tolentino ) and Urbs Salvia ( Urbisaglia ) — and Helvillum ( site uncertain, probably Sigillo, but maybe Fossato di Vico ), to cross the main ridge of the Apennines, a temple of Jupiter Apenninus standing at or near the summit of the pass according to one ancient author.

The Piazza del Foro ( Forum Square ) marks the site of the Roman-time forum: on the short north side, on the side of the Colle Cidneo ( Cidneo Hill ) dramatically stands a Corinthian temple with three cellae, which was rediscovered starting in 1823.

The sacred fire burned in Vesta's circular temple, built in the Roman Forum below the Aventine Hill in pre-republican times.
