2000 saw the year that Häkkinen conceded the title to Schumacher with 2001 yelding two victories and the announcement of a sabbatical that later turned into retirement.

Jody Scheckter replacing the Lotus bound Argentinian in 1979, took the title, supported by Gilles Villeneuve ( who dutifully followed the South African home at Monza, having been ordered to do so ), and won the last World Drivers ' Championship in a Ferrari until Michael Schumacher twenty one years later.

The commanding officer of Task Force Black, Captain Thomas McElwain, reported an enemy body count of 80 but was commanded by Schumacher ( whose conduct of the action later came under severe criticism ) to go out and count again.

" McElwain and Schumacher later clashed over McElwain's recommendation for a decoration for Private First Class John Andrew Barnes, III, who had leapt on a grenade and sacrificed his life to save wounded comrades during the action.

The two engineers rapidly formed the outstanding design partnership of the 1990s with Head / Newey cars achieving a level of dominance never seen before, and not repeated until the Ferrari / Schumacher era a decade later.

Schumacher did not acknowledge the black flag, and later claimed that he had not seen it.

Although Hill deliberately avoided becoming involved in the outcry at the time, in later years he explicitly accused Schumacher of deliberately driving into him.

Hill later commented that " We ( he and Schumacher ) had some pretty hairy moments and I am not satisfied with being driven into ; I don't think that was acceptable.

Schumacher made his way back up to third, overtaking Alesi on lap one, before overtaking Berger a few laps later.

To compound his misfortune, Barrichello made the switch too late, three laps later than Schumacher, meaning that he also dropped behind the German when he finally made his stop.

With little time between Melbourne and São Paulo, the Ferrari was still underdeveloped and Schumacher did not show the performance he later would deliver in Barcelona, for example.

The team retained Trulli for the season but replaced Zonta with race-winner Ralf Schumacher from Williams.

While retaining Jarno Trulli, Toyota replaced Ralf Schumacher with reigning GP2 champion Timo Glock for the 2008 season.

As part of his two-race ban after the events of the 1994 British Grand Prix, Michael Schumacher was replaced for this race by JJ Lehto.

In the Tim Burton / Joel Schumacher film adaptations of Batman, Commissioner Gordon is portrayed by Pat Hingle.

One of the reasons he got back into regular broadcasting was because after his wife died, Tim McCarver and Elizabeth Schumacher, his friend and business manager, urged him to get back into the game.
