Following Texas's independence from Mexico ( 1836 ), 33 Gonzales Rangers and Republic veterans established Seguin.

Following the end of the Civil War and the emancipation of the slaves ( 1865 ), a Freedmen's Bureau office opened in 1866 in Seguin to supervise work contracts between former slaves and area farmers.

The town is named after Plácido Benavides, namesake nephew of Plácido Benavides ( 1810 – 1837 ), Tejano 1832 alcalde of Victoria, who served under Stephen F. Austin with Juan Seguin, in the Siege of Bexar.

In 778, Seguin ( or Sihimin ) was appointed count of Bordeaux, probably undermining the power of the Duke Lupo, and possibly leading to the Battle of Roncevaux Pass that very year.

In Autumn 845, count Seguin II marched on the Vikings assaulting Bordeaux and Saintes but was captured and put to death.

When Huon, son of Seguin count of Bordeaux, passed through the forest where he lives, he was warned against Oberon by a hermit, but his courtesy had him answer Oberon's greetings, and so gain his aid in his quest: having killed Charlot, the Emperor's son, in self-defense, Huon must visit the court of the amir of Babylon and perform various feats to win a pardon, and only with Oberon's aid does he succeed.

The godfather of Huon may safely be identified with Seguin, who was count of Bordeaux under Louis the Pious in 839, and died fighting against the Normans six years later.

The revolt in Pamplona crossed the Pyrenees north and in 816 Louis the Pious deposed the Basque Duke Seguin of Bordeaux.

The real Seguin was Count of Bordeaux under Louis the Pious in 839, and died fighting against the Normans in 845.

In 814, Seguin was made Duke of Vasconia, but he was deposed in 816 for failing to suppress or sympathise with a Basque rebellion.

Also in 816, Louis the Pious decided to remove the rebellious Seguin as Duke of Vasconia, only to have another rebel, Garcia Semen arise in his place, with him being killed in 818.

In 1889 he invented a rotary engine which appears to have attracted so little notice that its principle had to be discovered over again by the brothers Seguin in 1908.
