Secretary of State Seward was a sick man.

In 1967, a century after the Alaska Purchase, the actor, Joseph Cotten, portrayed Seward in " The Freeman Story ", a part of his NBC anthology series, The Joseph Cotten Show.

Popular actor, Richard Mulligan, portrayed William Seward in the 1988 Lincoln mini-series, " Random Letters.

On December 18, 1865, Secretary of State William H. Seward, proclaimed the amendment to have been ratified by the legislatures of 27 of the then 36 states.

On July 20, 1868, Secretary of State William H. In 2001 a mentally ill man named Bruce Edward Seward was shot by an officer at the Hayward Station.
