Shōhei Ōoka won the Yomiuri Prize for his novel Fires on the Plain about a Japanese deserter going mad in the Philippine jungle.

On March 29, 1368 ( Shōhei 23, 11th day of the 3rd month ), following the death of Emperor Go-Murakami, he was enthroned in the house of the Chief Priest at the Sumiyoshi Grand Shrine in Sumiyoshi, Osaka, where the Southern Court had made its capital.

The movie version of Ninja Sentai Kakuranger, directed Shōhei Tōjō and written by Noboru Sugimura, premiered in Japan on April 16, 1994, at the Toei Super Hero Fair.

On January 18, 1942, the commander of 16th Army Lt. General Hitoshi Imamura arrived at Takao, Taiwan from his base at Saigon.

Upon graduation from Waseda in 1951, Imamura began his film career working as an assistant to Yasujirō Ozu at Shochiku Studios on the films ( 1951 ), ( 1952 ) and ( 1953 ).

Imamura left Shochiku in 1954 for a better salary at Nikkatsu.

With his 1961 film,, Imamura was able to fully indulge his interests in a wild and energetic story about the U. S. military base at Yokosuka and its relationship with lower elements of Japanese society.
