From 1975 to 1977, Skyhooks were — alongside Sherbet — the most commercially successful group in Australia, but over the next few years, Skyhooks rapidly faded from the public eye with the departure of key members, and in 1980 the band announced its break-up in controversial circumstances.

In 1990 Sherbet were inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame alongside classical composer and pianist, Percy Grainger.

Throughout this era, Sherbet toured Australia regularly and with remarkable thoroughness ; they were one of the few bands to consistently commit to playing full-scale concerts in regional areas of the country.

With their Australian success on the wane, and either as Sherbet or as Highway, the group were unable to come up with a follow-up international hit to " Howzat ".

After Catatonia split, he did a spell of record producing, and together with Paul Jones formed Sherbet Antlers ( joined by John Griffiths and Kevs Ford of Llwybr Llaethog ).

* The Meteor, the Stone and a Long Glass of Sherbet, the winner of the 1996 Interactive Fiction Competition, is strongly influenced by the Zork universe and includes many elements.

It was followed by Raging Sherbet on December 2, 1988, and by Nagisa's Fiancé four days later on December 8, 1988.

The screenplay, written by Jed Shepherd and directed by Alexander Marks included star roles by Chris Martin ( Sherbet Bones ) and Jonny Buckland ( Agent Ford ) of Coldplay as a pair of FBI agents hired to track down a supernatural serial killer.

In December 1976, the book Sherbet on Tour, by Christie Eliezer, sold 30, 000 copies in its first week.

In 1971, Sherbet entered Australia's prestigious national rock band contest, Hoadley's Battle of the Sounds, and won the New South Wales final but lost the national final to Adeliade-based band Fraternity ( led by Bon Scott later in AC / DC ).

2006 also saw the release of two newly recorded tracks on the compilation album, Sherbet – Super Hits, " Red Dress " ( Porter, Shakespeare, Braithwaite, Mitchell, James, Sandow ) and " Hearts Are Insane " ( Porter ), both produced by Ted Howard.

The drink concentrate, commonly referred to as Nannari Sherbet, is made by slightly crushing the roots of sarsaparilla and steeping it in hot water to infuse the flavors.

Each episode featured animation by several different companies including Slinky Pictures, Nexus Productions, Sherbet Animation ( of which Mr Bingo.

This album, produced by Garth Porter ( from the Australian pop band Sherbet ), and released by Universal Music Australia, featured selections from his catalog in an entirely new setting, re-arranged with strings and acoustic and jazz instrumentation.

The band consisted of Cerys Matthews on vocals, Mark Roberts on guitar, Paul Jones on bass ( both now members of Y Ffyrc, and former members of Sherbet Antlers and Y Cyrff ), Owen Powell ( who is a judge on ' Wawffactor ' – akin to a Welsh X Factor ) on guitar, and Aled Richards ( who now drums for Amy Wadge ) on drums.

Over the years many celebrities and performers made guest appearances on the show including John Farnham, Graham Kennedy, Nicole Kidman, Dame Edna Everage, Davy Jones, Micky Dolenz, Phyllis Diller, Debbie Reynolds, Kylie Minogue, Johnny O ' Keefe, Peter Allen, Lovelace Watkins, Normie Rowe, Russell Morris, Billy Thorpe, Demis Roussos, Jason Donovan, John Paul Young, Kamahl, Renee Geyer, Denise Drysdale, John Williamson, Ian ' Molly ' Meldrum and Denis Walter, and bands including Sherbet, The Mixtures, The Four Kinsmen, Little River Band, The Reels and even The Wombles!

Furthermore, he gained co-writing credits for several songs (" Walk Like A Panther ", " 1st Man in Space ", " Drive Safely Darlin '", " Stars On Sunday ", and " Happy Birthday Nicola ") on The All Seeing I's album Pickled Eggs & Sherbet, released in 1999.

More than 30 years later, the logo appeared on the 2006 compilation album Super Hits ( Sherbet album ) | Super Hits

Sherbet issued their debut album, Time Change ... A Natural Progression, in December 1972 on Infinity Records.

A string of hits followed on the Australian Kent Music Report Singles Chart ( replaced Go-Set charts after August ), with Sherbet releasing original Top 10 hits such as " Silvery Moon " ( 1974 ) and their first number-one hit " Summer Love " ( 1975 ).

From 1974, Braithwaite maintained a parallel solo career with Sherbet members often playing on his solo singles.

Porter began to take an occasional lead vocal on Sherbet singles, including " Hollywood Dreaming " and " A Matter of Time ".

Though the Sherbet album peaked at No. 3, " Another Night on the Road " ( 1978 ) was Sherbet's final top 10 Australian hit.

Both Shakespeare and James rejoined Sherbet on the final tour.

Sherbet have reunited on occasion over subsequent years.

He sang lead vocals on " Hollywood Dreaming " and " Matter of Time " with Sherbet.

Above all, Countdown was crucial to the success of many leading Australian acts, including AC / DC, Olivia Newton-John, INXS, Hush ( band ) Kylie Minogue, I'm Talking, John Paul Young, Sherbet, Skyhooks, Marcia Hines, Mark Holden, The Angels, Mondo Rock, Men at Work, Icehouse, Australian Crawl, Mental As Anything, Little River Band, William Shakespeare, Renée Geyer, Wa Wa Nee and Jon English.

Parody tributes included Punk rock ( I might be a Punk but I love ya baby ), Sherbet ( Howzat ), ABBA ( Salute to ABBA ), KISS ( KISS Army ), Boz Scaggs ( Nylon Degrees ), Billy Ray Cyrus ( Achy Breaky Heart ), and Peter Allen ( I Go to Rio ) ( Allen was present when Gunston parodied him on ABC's pop show Countdown, and didn't seem amused, although he would have been aware of the character having previously appeared on Gunston's ABC show as a guest.

Former Sherbet guitarist Clive Shakespeare operated the Silverwood recording studio in Hobart Avenue.

At the May 2006 Logie Awards Sherbet reunited as a six-piece: Braithwaite, James, Mitchell, Porter, Sandow and Shakespeare, where they performed " Howzat ".
