Ships Alert and Discovery

Three masted ships at one time were called the Great Ships, and marked transition in European seafaring from shallow coastal waters of the Age of Navigation confined primarily to the European shores and those of North Africa, via the Age of Discovery of other continents in relative proximity of Western Europe, to the " deep sea " oceanic sailing of the Age of Sail.

SS Robin is now listed on the core collection of the National Historic Ships register alongside Cutty Sark, HMS Belfast and Discovery.

Adept's Gambit would not see publication until 1947, while The Lords of Quarmall would be finished by Leiber and published in 1964 and The Tale of the Grain Ships would become the prototype for " Scylla's Daughter " ( 1961 ) and, later, the novel The Swords of Lankhmar ( 1968 ).

Shortly after Professor Laughton published his " Jenkins's Ear " research in the English Historical Review, a Royal Navy colleague wrote, on 26 October 1889, to inform the historian: " I have a curious book connected with the subject, published in London in 1739, entitled England's Triumph: or a complete History of the many signals victories gained by the Royal Navy & Merchant Ships of Great Britain, for the term of 40 years past over the insulting & haught Spaniards by Captain Charles Jenkins, who has too severely felt the effects of Spanish tyranny.

In 1911, the Bureau of Construction and Repair published " Ships Data US Naval Vessels ", which subsequently became the " Ships Data Book " in 1952 under the Bureau of Ships.

The Bureau of Ordnance's " Vessel Register ", first published in 1942 and retitled " Naval Vessel Register ", was combined with the " Ships Data Book " under the Bureau of Ships in 1959.

Later, Bengtsson became widely known for his Viking saga novel Röde Orm ( The Long Ships ), published in two parts in 1941 and 1945.

Ships built in this manner were written of in Zhu Yu's book Pingzhou Table Talks, published by 1119 AD during the Song Dynasty.

The account was completed and published in May 1838 as the Narrative of the Surveying Voyages of His Majesty's Ships Adventure and Beagle in four volumes.

In 1802 he published a legal tract, On Merchants ' Ships and Seamen, which was praised by his fellow lawyers and earned him a large amount of commercial work ; it was later republished in the United States, where it was misattributed to Charles Abbot, the Speaker of the House of Commons.

Jane's Fighting Ships is an annual reference book ( also published online, on CD and microfiche ) of information on all the world's warships arranged by nation, including information on ship's names, dimensions, armaments, silhouettes and photographs, etc.

It was originally published by John F. T. Jane ( usually known as " Fred T .") in 1898 as Jane's All the World's Fighting Ships.

His first published novel, A Flock of Ships, appeared in 1970 to widespread critical and popular acclaim.

In 1903, the marine engineer Italian, General Vittorio Cuniberti, had a series of articles published by the prestigious Jane's Fighting Ships, who advocated a revolutionary design of warships.

Madrid, Aug. 28. Letters from Lisbon bring the following Account from Rio Janeiro: That the St. Augustine, of 70 Guns, having being separated from the Squadron of M. Casa Tilly, was attacked by two Portugueze Ships, against which they defended themselves for a Day and a Night, but being next Day surrounded by the Portugueze Fleet, was obliged to surrender.

The idea of this name was proposed by Jim Kardach who developed a system that would allow cell phones to communicate with computers ( at the time he was reading Frans Gunnar Bengtsson's historical novel The Long Ships about Vikings and king Harald Bluetooth ).

The Catalogue of Ships mentions three separate contingents from Thrace: Thracians led by Acamas and Peiros, from Aenus ; Cicones led by Euphemus, from southern Thrace, near Ismaros ; and from the city of Sestus, on the Thracian ( northern ) side of the Hellespont, which formed part of the contingent led by Asius.
