During the attack, both ships are pulled into the singularity and transported into the past ; the appearance of the Narada ( which arrives farther into the past than Spock's ship ) and its subsequent attack on the USS Kelvin creates an alternate timeline depicted in the 2009 Star Trek film.

Despite this, some elements which originated in the animated series have been used in subsequent stories, most notably the details of Spock's childhood and Vulcan culture revealed in the episode " Yesteryear ", which were alluded to in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode " Unification ", in the Star Trek: The Original Series remastered episode " Amok Time ", and in Star Trek: Enterprise.

It is included on his first 1967 album Leonard Nimoy Presents Mr. Spock's Music From Outer Space.

As his mate was not available on the Genesis planet ( where Spock underwent the two pon farr periods ), it was implied that he mated with Lt. Saavik, a female Vulcan scientist on the crew of the Enterprise who showed compassion in guiding him through the accelerated pon farr ( in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, a deleted scene was intended to confirm the implication ( i. e., that Saavik bore Spock's child ); its removal from the film, however, struck it from ' official ' Trek canon ).

In Diane Duane's novel Spock's World, it was suggested that Arie ' mnu closely translates into " passion's mastery ", but that linguist Amanda Grayson, Sarek's wife and Spock's mother, in her work on the universal translator, had mistranslated the Vulcan word to mean " lack of emotions ".

It was later discovered that Spock's body came to rest on the Genesis Planet after his burial in space, and was regenerated.

He was recovered and was taken with McCoy to Mount Seleya on Vulcan where a Vulcan high priestess named T ' Lar performed a rare, seldom-attempted ritual called the fal tor pan, literally, " re-fusion ," which removed the katra from McCoy and implanted it into Spock's regenerated body.

Nimoy still has the last pair of Spock's ears he wore on the series, as a memento.

It was only on Sunday in the early afternoon that Spock's influence on his behavior would fade off and he would feel more himself again – only to start the cycle over Monday morning.

The sequel, Star Trek III: The Search for Spock ( 1984 ), focuses on his crewmates ' quest to recover Spock's body, resurrected by the Genesis matrix in the previous film.

Set 75 years after the events of The Undiscovered Country, the episode focuses on Federation Ambassador Spock's attempt to reunite the Romulans with their Vulcan brethren.

The film also depicts Kirk and Spock's initial clashes at Starfleet Academy, and the gradual development of their friendship based on shared mutual respect, what the elder Spock calls "... a friendship that will define both in ways cannot yet realize.

Spock's home planet was changed because Roddenberry thought if the show was a success, humans might actually walk on Mars during the series ' run.

After DeForest Kelley in 1964 stated his non-interest in playing the role, Roddenberry cast Nimoy because he knew him from a guest appearance in his pilot The Lieutenant ; after Roddenberry saw Nimoy's thin face and sharp features, no other actors were considered-Kelley, on the other hand, would later be cast as Dr. McCoy, the highly emotional human who became Spock's frequent foil.

Spock's death scene was shot over three days, during which no visitors were allowed on set.

Test audience reaction to Spock's death and the film's ending ( the tone of which was dark and final ) was poor, so Bennett made it more uplifting by adding a final scene revealing Spock's casket on the Genesis planet.

25 years later, Spock's death in The Wrath of Khan ranks number 2 on Total Film's list of 25 greatest Star Trek movie moments, and number 1 on IGN Movie's top 10 Star Trek movie moments.

During the late 1960s Peale referring to the anti Vietnam War demonstrations and the perceived laxity of that era blamed these events on Dr. Spock's books claiming that " the U. S. was paying the price of two generations that followed the Dr. Spock baby plan of instant gratification of needs.

However, Spock's grandson Peter did commit suicide on December 25, 1983 at the age of 22 by jumping from the roof of the Boston Children's Museum.

The Kahs-wan was first introduced in the Star Trek: The Animated Series episode " Yesteryear ", in which Spock's experience as a child was detailed.

" Meyer and Bennett cut out Krikes and Meerson's idea of having the Klingon Bird-of-Prey fly over the Super Bowl and the hint that Saavik remained on Vulcan because she was pregnant with Spock's child.

Afterwards, she remained on Vulcan with Spock's family for reasons never explained on screen ; the film's writers intended that this was because she was pregnant with Spock's child as a result of the pon farr, but no references to her pregnancy made it into the finished movie and it was never followed up, thereby once again placing this development into a grey area in terms of canon.

In the TOS episode " This Side of Paradise ", Leila Kalomi hints at having had a special relationship with Spock some six years earlier, though Spock's remark that he hoped his half-human blood would see him " spared " the agony of pon farr in the episode Amok Time suggests that their relationship was more casual.

Captain Kirk and Chief Medical Officer Dr. McCoy witness one of Spock's outbursts, and McCoy agrees Spock needs some " time off.

Mr. Spock provides some assistance himself after McCoy reestablishes Spock's capacity to speak verbally.

Tyler Cowen and Alex Tabarrok in Modern Principles: Economics state that some economists consider " Spock's Brain " to be the worst Star Trek episode, because no single brain could come close to running an economy.

Another book, Spock's World ( ISBN 0-671-66773-4 ), makes reference to some of the events in The Romulan Way from the Vulcan side of things.

Though respectful of Spock's ability to make his own choices, Sarek clearly encourages him to maintain his logical Vulcan nature.

Star Trek author Diane Duane explored Surak's backstory from the character's own perspective, in the novel Spock's World -- which depicts Surak's initial awakening and internet-dissemination of his philosophy after leaving his job as a computer programmer in response to a nuclear explosion from a war between mining conglomerates that spreads to T ' Khut, Vulcan's " moon " ( in reality, Vulcan's smaller binary planet ).

Back in the rec room, Kirk defeats Spock at three-dimensional chess, beating Spock's logic with his own quirky move.

In 1989, Pocket Books published her novel, Vulcan's Glory, which concerns Spock's struggle to reconcile his Vulcan heritage with his obligations to Starfleet and his duties to family — and his own heart's desires.

The Vulcan masters conducting the trials concluded that since Spock's human blood was touched by these messages from space, he could not have achieved Kolinahr, and the ritual was halted.

Nimoy felt that the action was not in keeping with the nature of Spock's character, so he suggested the " pinch " as a non-violent alternative, suggesting that Vulcans have the ability to emit energy from their fingertips, which, if applied to the correct nerve cluster, could render a human unconscious.

" A major change in characterization from the primary timeline is alternate Spock's involvement with alternate Uhura ( Zoe Saldana ), his former student.

Mork's greeting was " Na-Nu Na-Nu " ( pronounced " nah-noo nah-noo ") along with a hand gesture similar to Mr. Spock's Vulcan salute from Star Trek combined with a handshake.

Spock's katra and body are needed to lay him to rest on his homeworld, Vulcan, and without help McCoy will die from carrying the katra.

Disobeying orders, Kirk and his officers spring McCoy from detention, disable USS Excelsior, and steal Enterprise from Spacedock to return to the Genesis planet to retrieve Spock's body.

Spock's famous Vulcan hand salute, repeated many times in later episodes and series, is given for the first time when Spock departs from T ' Pau.

Kirk calls Dr. McCoy down from the Enterprise, who has fashioned a device to remotely operate Spock's brainless body and has the mechanically controlled Spock accompany him.

Star Trek co-producer Robert H. Justman ruefully recalled in the book Inside Star Trek The Real Story, that he was the person who suggested that Spock's brain, after being rescued by the Enterprise crew, actually " takes over during surgery and instructs Dr. McCoy exactly how to go back reinserting it back where it came from — inside Spock's skull.

Ambassador Sarek from Vulcan boards with his human wife Amanda who Captain Kirk learns, to his surprise, are Mr. Spock's parents.
