The theological preparation of the Carmelites was strengthened, particularly with the foundation of St. Albert's College in Rome.

* In July 1973, Zimbabwe African National Liberation Army ( ZANLA ) cadres captured 292 pupils and staff from the school at St Albert's Mission between Centenary and Mount Darwin in Rhodesia ( now Zimbabwe ) and force-marched them north towards Mozambique, where the ZANLA bases were.

On his feast day ( August 7 ), a relic of the saint is dipped into the water of St. Albert's Well and is said to grant healing of body and mind those who use the water.

Maymyo was an important educational centre during colonial times, with the GEHSs ( Government English High Schools ), such as St. Mary's, St. Michael's, St. Albert's, St. Joseph's Convent, and Colgate, all based in the town.
