* 1930 – The last 36 remaining inhabitants of St Kilda are voluntarily evacuated to other parts of Scotland.

In 1896, delegates from the stronger and wealthier VFA clubs — Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon, Fitzroy, Geelong, Melbourne, St Kilda and South Melbourne — met to form a breakaway competition and in 1897, the Victorian Football League ( VFL ), was born as an eight-team competition.

In their first year in the AFL the Lions made the finals, finishing in eighth position after being defeated by the St Kilda Football Club in a Qualifying Final.

Essendon did make the finals in 1972 and 1973 under the autocratic direction of Des Tuddenham ( Collingwood ) but they were beaten badly in successive elimination finals by St. Kilda and would not taste finals action again until the very end of the decade.

2007 was a much better season for Essendon, in which, despite significant wins over Adelaide ( twice ), Fremantle, St Kilda, Sydney ( by one point in Sydney ), the previous year's premiers West Coast ( their second successive win by a solitary point ) and Carlton, they missed the finals for the third year running.

Prominent street art precincts include ; Fitzroy, Collingwood, Northcote, Brunswick, St. Kilda and the CBD, where stencil and sticker art is prominent.

Only six breeding colonies are known: Papa Westray in the Orkney Islands, St. Kilda Island off Scotland, Grimsey Island and Eldey Island near Iceland, Funk Island near Newfoundland, and the Bird Rocks ( Rochers-aux-Oiseaux ) in the Gulf of St. Lawrence.

By the late 18th and early 19th centuries, the breeding range of the Great Auk was restricted to Funk Island, Grimsey Island, Eldey Island, the Gulf of St. Lawrence, and St. Kilda Island.

It was on the islet of Stac an Armin, St Kilda, Scotland, in July 1840, that the last Great Auk seen in the British Isles was caught and killed.

Three men from St Kilda caught a single " garefowl ", noticing its little wings and the large white spot on its head.

* Walton Ford, the American painter, has featured Great Auks in two paintings: " The Witch of St. Kilda " and " Funk Island ".

Despite recording the most successful home and away season in the game's history, the club went one win short of back-to-back premierships in losing the 2008 AFL Grand Final, but won the 2009 Grand Final against St Kilda.

Geelong holds a number of league records including the longest winning streak in AFL / VFL history ( 23 games ); the most goals kicked in a single game ( on two occasions-37. 17 ( 239 ) against Brisbane in 1992 and 37. 11 ( 233 ) against Melbourne in 2011 ); the highest score recorded in a single game ( 37. 17 ( 239 ) against Brisbane in 1992 ; the highest-ever aggregate season total for points scored ( 3, 334 points in 1992 ); the record for restricting an opponent to the lowest ever score in a game ( St Kilda 0. 1 ( 1 ) in 1899 ); the most consecutive 100-point victories ( 3 games in a row, in 1989 ); the longest winning streak in interstate games ( 12 games ) and achieved the longest home ground winning streak in VFL / AFL history — 29 games straight at Simonds Stadium ( also known as Kardinia Park ).

Geelong helped form the new VFL with other foundation clubs, Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon, Fitzroy, Melbourne, South Melbourne and St Kilda.

The main islands include Barra, Benbecula, Berneray, Harris, Lewis, North Uist, South Uist, and St Kilda.

His second match was against St Kilda, scheduled as a 2-day game over consecutive weeks.

Currently services are held in B ' nai B ' rith House, East St Kilda. The refurbishment and partial reconstruction of a building in Caulfield to serve as the first Conservative Synagogue building in Australia is advanced, completion being anticipated during 2010.

As well as this, the club won the championship in both 1915 and 1918 for finishing on top of the ladder, and accounted for VFL side St Kilda comfortably.

In the book the author gives an account of a voyage to the archipelago of St. Kilda and its proximity to Rockall: "... and from it lies Rokol, a small rock sixty leagues to the westward of St. Kilda ; the inhabitants of this place call it ' Rokabarra '.

In the divisional playoffs, the Falcons defeated the St. Louis Rams 47 – 17 in the Georgia Dome, advancing to the NFC Championship, which they lost to the Eagles 27 – 10.

Having been defeated by his brother's armies, Cem sought protection from the Knights of St. John in Rhodes.

Little Turtle | Mishikinakwa (" Little Turtle ")'s forces defeated an American force of nearly 1000 U. S Army soldiers and other casualties at the St. Clair's Defeat | Battle of the Wabash in 1791.

The Saints defeated the St. Louis Rams 31-28 in 2000 to notch their first-ever playoff win.

In week 17, the Saints defeated division rivals Carolina ; however, the Saints needed other results to break their way and when the St. Louis Rams beat the New York Jets the Saints were eliminated despite having beaten the Rams, who finished with the same record.

However, they were defeated in the National League Division Series by the Tony La Russa-led St. Louis Cardinals, 3 games to 0.

On 21 March 1646, the Royalists, commanded by Sir Jacob Astley, were defeated at the Battle of Stow-on-the-Wold, with hundreds of prisoners being confined for some time in St. Edwards.

The only other Super Bowl to date without a turnover is Super Bowl XXXIV, in which the St. Louis Rams defeated the Tennessee Titans 23-16.

* February 17 – Second Battle of St Albans, England: The Earl of Warwick's army is defeated by a Lancastrian force under Queen Margaret, who recovers control of her husband.

* July 22 – Battle of St. Jakob an der Sihl: Zürich is barely defeated.

Colonel Thomas Horton defeated the Royalist rebels at the battle of St. Fagans in May and the rebel leaders surrendered to Cromwell on July 11 after the protracted two month siege of Pembroke.

They defeated Warwick's army at the Second Battle of St Albans and recaptured the feeble-minded King Henry, who had been abandoned on the battlefield for the third time, but failed to occupy London.

The Battle of Cape St Vincent ( 14 February 1797 ) was one of the opening battles of The Anglo-Spanish War ( 1796 – 1808 ) where a British fleet under Admiral Sir John Jervis defeated a larger Spanish fleet under Admiral Don José de Córdoba near Cape St. Vincent, Portugal.

During the American War of Independence, the British were defeated for a second time, in this instance by a combination of French and Spanish forces, which regained the island after a long siege of St. Philip's Castle in Port Mahon on 5 February 1782.
