The mitred abbots in England were those of Abingdon, St Alban's, Bardney, Battle, Bury St Edmunds, St Augustine's Canterbury, Colchester, Croyland, Evesham, Glastonbury, Gloucester, St Benet's Hulme, Hyde, Malmesbury, Peterborough, Ramsey, Reading, Selby, Shrewsbury, Tavistock, Thorney, Westminster, Winchcombe, and St Mary's York.

His elder brother, Tom, was already a physician and suggested to his younger sibling that he follow the same career, and so in 1903, the younger Alexander enrolled at St Mary's Hospital Medical School in Paddington.

The captain of the club, wishing to retain Fleming in the team suggested that he join the research department at St Mary's, where he became assistant bacteriologist to Sir Almroth Wright, a pioneer in vaccine therapy and immunology.

Berlin's best preserved medieval Church of St. Mary's is the 1 < sup > st </ sup > preaching venue – Memorial Church being the 2 < sup > nd </ sup > – of the Bishop of the Evangelical Church of Berlin-Brandenburg-Silesian Upper Lusatia ( EKBO ), a Protestant regional church body.

The only exception is the view from Gate House's tower that looks down St. Mary's Street.

When abbots dined in their own private hall, the Rule of St Benedict charged them to invite their monks to their table, provided there was room, on which occasions the guests were to abstain from quarrels, slanderous talk and idle gossiping.

Even the abbey of St Denis was held in commendam by Hugh Capet.

Theodosius ' wife St Flacilla was instrumental in his campaign to end Arianism.

The Mariner's Cross is also referred to as St. Clement's Cross, in reference to the way this saint was martyred ( being tied to an anchor and thrown from a boat into the Black Sea in 102 ).

St. Ambrose was also traditionally credited with composing the hymn Te Deum, which he is said to have composed when he baptised St. Augustine of Hippo, his celebrated convert.

Common meter hymns were interchangeable with a variety of tunes ; more than twenty musical settings of " Amazing Grace " circulated with varying popularity until 1835 when William Walker assigned Newton's words to a traditional song named " New Britain ", which was itself an amalgamation of two melodies (" Gallaher " and " St. Mary ") first published in the Columbian Harmony by Charles H. Spilman and Benjamin Shaw ( Cincinnati, 1829 ).

It was recorded in St. Paul's, the chapel at Columbia University, chosen for the acoustics.

From 796 until his death he was Abbot of the great monastery of St. Martin of Tours where he founded a library by obtaining copies of books from libraries in his native England.

Damaged buildings included the medieval churches of St. Foillan, St. Paul and St. Nicholas, and the Rathaus ( city hall ), although Aachen Cathedral was largely unscathed.

She died broken-hearted in July of the next year, at the castle of Poissy, and was buried in the Convent of St Corentin, near Nantes.

The ' far-away light ' () is a reference to St Elmo's Fire, an electrical discharge supposed by ancient Greek mariners to be an epiphany of the Dioscuri, but the meaning of the line was obscured by gaps in the papyrus until reconstructed by a modern scholar — such reconstructions are typical of the extant poetry ( see Scholars, fragments and sources below ).

Passages from the quadrangle give access to modern accommodation blocks and dining hall to the east, and the college library ( the deconsecrated church of St Peter-in-the-East, 12th century ; the crypt remains consecrated ) and gardens ( St Peter's churchyard ) to the north.

The 1000 year old tower at St Ultan's ( deconsecrated ) Anglican Church. It was reroofed in the mid 1980s in a joint Protestant / Catholic effort.

The largest and most conspicuous building on Sanday is the deconsecrated Catholic church of St Edward, which stands alone on an elevated part of the island, away from the cottages which, together with the school, cluster around the bay facing Canna.

The Garden Museum, formerly known as the Museum of Garden History, is based in the deconsecrated parish church of St Mary-at-Lambeth adjacent to Lambeth Palace on the south bank of the River Thames in London, located on Lambeth Road.

St Mary's, which was largely a Victorian reconstruction, was deconsecrated in 1972 and was scheduled to be demolished.

Hugh Bourne Primitive Methodist Chapel was built on Jumble Lane ( now Kinder Road ) in 1867 and deconsecrated in 1969, its congregation merging into St John's.

St. Mary's was relegated to Profane Use, or deconsecrated, and sold.

In the parish is the former Church of Ireland Cathedral of St Crumnathy, now deconsecrated.
