Towards the end of the 1950s Standard-Triumph offered a range of 2-seater Triumph sports cars alongside its Standard saloons, the Standard 8 & 10, powered by a small ( 803 cc or 948 cc ) 4-cylinder engine, which by the late 1950s were due for an update.

In early 1963 Giovanni Michelotti was commissioned by Standard-Triumph to design a GT version of their recently introduced Spitfire 4 ( also designed by Michelotti ).

It was intended by Standard-Triumph ( and Leyland, their parent organisation ) as a successor to the popular Triumph Herald range.

The GT6 was a 6-cylinder sports coupé built by Standard-Triumph and based on their popular Triumph Spitfire convertible.

Like all Standard-Triumph offerings, DIY servicing was simple: the clutch plate could be replaced from inside the car and unlike the Mini-based vehicles, changing CV joints was a three-spanner operation.

The Triumph 1500 was a small ( initially ) front-wheel drive automobile produced by Standard-Triumph from 1970 to 1976.

The Triumph Vitesse is a compact six-cylinder car built by Standard-Triumph from 1962 to 1971.

The platform for the car was largely based upon the chassis, engine, and running gear of the Triumph Herald saloon, and was manufactured at the Standard-Triumph works at Canley, Coventry.

The only all-new Triumph model initiated as Rover Triumph was the ' TR7, which had the misfortune to be in production successively at three factories that were closed: Speke, the strike-prone Leyland-era Standard-Triumph works in Liverpool, the original Standard works at Canley, Coventry and finally the Rover works in Solihull.

The Standard-Triumph company was eventually bought in 1960 by Leyland Motors Ltd which paid £ 20 million and the last Standard, an Ensign Deluxe was produced in the UK in May 1963, when the final Vanguard models were replaced by the Triumph 2000 model.

After a " considerable argument " between Standard-Triumph Managing Director, Sir John Black, and William Lyons, the creator and owner of Jaguar, Black's objective in acquiring the rights to the name and the remnants of the bankrupt Triumph business was to build a car to compete with the soon-to-be-launched post-war Jaguars.

Giovanni Michelotti was commissioned to style the car by the Standard-Triumph board, encouraged by Harry Webster, Chief Engineer, and quickly produced designs for a two-door saloon with a large glass area that gave 93 % all-round visibility in the Saloon variant and the " razor-edge " looks to which many makers were turning.

The vehicle was based on a design produced for Standard-Triumph in 1957 by Italian designer Giovanni Michelotti.

Standard-Triumph therefore started work on the Herald.

The Lucas system proved unpopular: Lucas did not want to develop it further, and Standard-Triumph dealers were unwilling to attend factory and field-based training courses dedicated to this propulsion method.

The Triumph Herald was a small two-door car introduced in 1959 by the Standard-Triumph Company of Coventry.

Standard-Triumph experienced financial difficulties at the beginning of the 1960s and was taken over by Leyland Motors Ltd in 1961.

Bean was taken over by Standard-Triumph in 1956 and in 1960 became a part of British Leyland.

By 1955 five companies produced 90 % of Britain's motor vehicle output: BMC, Ford, Rootes, Standard-Triumph and Vauxhall.

He moved to New York and landed a Job as Assistant Advertising Manager, Standard-Triumph North America for the introduction of the TR4.

Another motorcycle with a rotary engine was Charles Redrup's 1912 Redrup Radial, which was a three-cylinder 303 cc rotary engine fitted to a number of motorcycles by Redrup.

The 602 cc engine evolved to the M28 in 1970 ; this was the most powerful engine fitted to the 2CV.

The Seven would quickly be " rodded " by numerous companies ( as the Type 1 would be a generation later ), including Bassett and Dingle ( Hammersmith, London ); in 1928, a Cozette blower was fitted to the Seven Super Sports, while Cecil Kimber fitted an 847 cc Minor engine, and sold more Midgets in the first year than MG's entire previous production.

By this time the competition cars were fitted with 1440 cc engines derived from the Renault R8 Gordini.

The 1172 cc straight-4 engine from the Ford Ten was fitted for some export markets, including North America, where imports began for model year 1948 ; these cars used the slightly more aerodynamic " three-hole " grille from the 1937-8 Ford Ten 7W, prefacing the 1949 E494A facelift.

These were so successful that Clymer also commissioned Tartarini to build full-size Indian motorcycles based on the Italjet Grifon design, but fitted firstly with Royal Enfield Interceptor 750 cc parallel-twin engines, then with Velocette 500 cc single-cylinder Thruxton engines.

Several models with engine displacement between 50 cc and 175 cc were produced, mostly fitted with Italian two-stroke engines made either by Italjet or Franco Morini, but the fortunes of this venture didn't last long.

The water-cooled SOHC 1, 832 cc flat-six is fitted to the Honda Goldwing from 2001 on.

The Cortina was launched a few weeks before the London Motor Show of October 1962 with a 1197 cc 3-bearing engine, which was an enlarged version of the 997 cc engine then fitted in the Ford Anglia.

Although prototype engines were fitted to the FC 101 Victor the first production car to use the engine was the 1967 Victor, at capacities of 1599 cc and 1975 cc.

The first British company to market a production saloon ( US: sedan ) fitted with disc brakes to all four wheels was Jensen Motors with the introduction of a Deluxe version of the Jensen 541 with Dunlop disc brakes.

Later ones were horizontal timbers fitted with spikes, a version of what is called a cheval de frise, but the Oxford English Dictionary suggests that the mounting timbers of the originals may have been vertical, since a slightly later sense was of a horizontal cross of timbers turning on a vertical pin, set up to exclude horse-traffic from a footpath, which is in essence the device we now call a turnstile.

In Chile, many vehicles are fitted with three types of audible warnings, which are sounded all at once: the classic " air " siren, the electronic " yelp ", and the European two-tone air horns ( sometimes newer vehicles are fitted with the electronic version of the latter, commonly called " Hi-Lo ").

The 2-Litre used an updated version of the pre-war underslung chassis fitted with the AC straight-six and traditional ash-framed and aluminium-panelled saloon or convertible coachwork.

Fokker's team adapted their system to work with the new Parabellum MG14 machine gun fitted to a Fokker A. III unarmed single-seat monoplane ( a military version of the Fokker M. 5K ) usually flown for almost the entire first year of hostilities in World War I by Leutnant Otto Parschau, marked with the IdFlieg number A. 16 / 15.

* He 111 H-2: This version was fitted with improved armament.

The US Federalized version with the supercharger fitted is known as the Exige S 240.

Smith & Wesson's Performance Center produces the top of the line hand fitted competition version knowns as the PC 1911.

** Armoured Engineer Reconnaissance Vehicle ( AERV ) – This version has no gun and is fitted with specialised equipment, including an echo-sounder, a water current meter, a laser range finder and GPS.

The remaining 51 Mark I model were fitted with a larger version of the Windsor Ford engine, the V8.
