Sting's first involvement in the human rights cause came in September 1981 when he was invited by producer Martin Lewis to participate in the fourth Amnesty International gala The Secret Policeman's Other Ball following the example set at the 1979 show by Pete Townshend.

Sting also led an impromptu super-group of other musicians ( dubbed The Secret Police ) performing at the show including Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Phil Collins, Donovan, Bob Geldof and Midge Ure in the show's grand finale – Sting's own reggae-tinged arrangement of Bob Dylan's I Shall Be Released.

Sting's performance at the Secret Policeman's Other Ball – his first live appearances as a solo performer – was prominently featured on the album of the show ( being its lead tracks ) and in the feature film of the show.

The following statement was released on behalf of the band by a spokesman at Interscope-Geffen-A & M and posted on Sting's official website: " As the 30th anniversary of the first Police single approaches, discussions have been underway as to how this will be commemorated.

He was also involved in two other recordings in the late 1980s, the first in 1987 with jazz arranger Gil Evans, who placed Sting in a big band setting for a live album of Sting's songs ( the CD was not released in the U. S .), and the second on Frank Zappa's 1988 Broadway the Hard Way album, where Sting performs an unusual arrangement of " Murder By Numbers ", set to the tune " Stolen Moments " by jazz composer Oliver Nelson, and " dedicated " to fundamentalist evangelist Jimmy Swaggart.

The principals claimed that the band was still together ( despite Hakim's involvement with Sting's band and Bailey's with Steps Ahead ), but it was also notable that Weather Report's contract with Columbia Records had just expired, leaving both parties open to other options.

When the show reformatted with new hosts and set they used an instrumental version of Sting's 1999 hit, " Brand New Day " until late October 2006, when it was replaced by the CBS Evening News theme from James Horner.

This song is considered to be The Police's signature song, and in 2010 was estimated to generate between a quarter and a third of Sting's music publishing income.

On August 13, 2006, Cage was in Sting's corner at Hard Justice as he faced Jarrett, with Scott Steiner in his corner, for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship.

The match ending was booked as Taz's presence enabling Joe to recover from Sting's Scorpion Deathlock submission hold and win the match via submission after applying the Coquina Clutch.

The match was also the quarter-finals of the Fight For The Right tournament for number one contendership to Sting's NWA World Heavyweight Championship.

On September 19, at Fall Brawl, Animal was the advisor for Sting's team, consisting of Sting, Davey Boy Smith, Dustin Rhodes, and The Shockmaster for WarGames, defeating Big Van Vader, Sid Vicious, and Harlem Heat.

When he began working for WCW full-time, Vader was paired with a manager, Harley Race, and received a shot at Sting's WCW World Heavyweight Championship on April 12, 1992, and was disqualified.

Among his creations were The Black Scorpion, which was intended to be a nemesis from Sting's past.

It was also the melodic counterpoint to the intro and verses of Sting's hit " All This Time ".

It replaced " Again " by Janet Jackson, and was replaced by Bryan Adams, Rod Stewart and Sting's " All for Love ".

The colt's dame was named Set Them Free, a reference to Sting's song " If You Love Somebody Set Them Free ".

Their look was from the " New Wave " music scene with black eye paint and spiked hair with a rat tail ( Sting's bleached blonde and Rock's dyed black ).

Despite the growing number of successes on the court, the 2006 season proved to be the Sting's final season in the league.

Rhodes used then-unknown Shane Douglas as the transitional champion from Gilbert to Taylor because Rhodes did not want to diminish Sting's growing stardom with a brief title run.

Various appearances by the Schoener outfit on German television made the German public aware of Sting's unusual high-pitched voice, and helped pave the way for the Police's later popularity.

Sting's look, dominated by his orange-coloured hair ( a result from his role in Dune ) and tattered clothing, all which were emphasized in the music videos from the album, carried over into the set for the concert.

Summers played guitar on Sting's album ... Nothing Like the Sun ( 1987 ), a favor the singer returned by playing bass on Summers ' album Charming Snakes ( 1989 ) and later singing lead vocals on "' Round Midnight " for Summers ' tribute to Thelonious Monk Green Chimneys ( 1999 ).

The song stayed at the top of the U. S. charts for five weeks and went Platinum ; it is to date Sting's only song from his post-Police career to top the U. S. charts.

During offseasons, she interned with the Sting's front office, worked with US Sport Management, Inc., played a second winter season in Italy in 1999 – 2000, and served as an assistant women's basketball coach at UNC for several seasons.

This marked the band's first public performance since 1986 ( they had previously reunited only for an improvised set at Sting's wedding party in 1992 and for their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003 ).

Colaiuta remained as a member of Sting's band for the next seven years.

Sting's collaboration with Blige, " Whenever I Say Your Name ", won the Grammy Award for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals at the 46th Grammy Awards in 2004.

After Victory Road, Cage befriended the new number one contender Sting on the July 27, 2006 episode of Impact !, by asking for forgiveness for doubting Sting's agenda by coming to TNA in January of that year.

He went on to say that he had asked Jim Cornette the week before if he could be in Sting's corner in his match with Jarrett for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship at TNA's Hard Justice PPV event, but had told him he needed Sting's approval.

One month later, Nash returned at Bound for Glory IV and in a swerve, struck Joe in the back with Sting's bat, helping Sting win the TNA World Heavyweight Championship.

Eventually Atwood ventured into the world of costume design for theater and film, initially coming to fame through her work on Sting's Bring on the Night World Tour, also made into a documentary by the same name.

As Sting's fame rose, his relationship with band founder Stewart Copeland deteriorated.

The film went through drastic overhauls and plot changes, many of which were documented by Sting's wife, Trudie Styler.

Initial reviews by fans that had access to early promotional copies were mixed, and some questioned Sting's artistic direction with this album.

Both of Sting's parents died from cancer in 1987.

He performed a special arrangement of Sting's " Fragile " with Sting and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir during the opening ceremonies of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Sting's signature is inlaid between the 18th and 19th frets, and a label inside the body states that a portion of the sale price is donated to the Rainforest Foundation International.
