In Action Comics # 544 ( June 1983 ), Brainiac had constructed a giant, artificial, computer-controlled planet and used it in his latest attempt to destroy Superman ; unfortunately, his defeat at the hands of the Man of Steel left him trapped at the center of the planet, unable to escape.

In Superman / Batman " Absolute Power ", Lightning Lord, Cosmic King and Saturn Queen all appear married as the substitute parents of Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne in an alternate timeline which they constructed.

For the 2000 season, the park was supposed to open two new coasters Superman: Krypton Coaster a Bolliger & Mabillard Floorless roller coaster and Boardwalk Canyon Blaster a Zierer roller coaster, but only Superman: Krypton Coaster was constructed and opened.

In season two of the Legion of Super Heroes cartoon, Superman X ( voiced by Yuri Lowenthal, who also voiced Superman ) is introduced with several similarities to the Eradicator in its humanoid form ; is a physical replica of Superman, he is created as a living weapon, possesses powers similar to Superman's as well as additional energy-based powers and resistance to Kryptonite, has a ruthless and cold-blooded attitude which is tempered over time, and wears a costume with similarities to that worn by the Eradicator following The Death of Superman Superman X also has aspects similar to Superboy ( Kon-El ), and Mon-El.

Krusty lights a cigarette with an issue of Action Comics # 1, the first appearance of Superman, and one of the rarest comic books of all-time, while Homer forms his mashed potatoes into a circus tent in a parody of Richard Dreyfuss ' character forming his potatoes into a replica of Devils Tower in the 1977 film Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Later in the film, when the need to change is more urgent ( as he believes the city is about to be poisoned by Lex Luthor ), he simply jumps out a window of the Daily Planet offices, changing at super-speed as he falls ( the film merely shows the falling Kent blurring into a falling Superman ) and flies off.

In the midst of nuclear winter conditions, Gotham becomes the safest city in America ; the U. S. government, seeing this as an embarrassment, orders Superman to take Batman down.

In some versions of the Superman mythos, additional survivors were later discovered, such as Krypto the Superdog, Supergirl, her parents ( kept alive in the " Survival Zone ", a similar parallel " dimension " to the Phantom Zone ), the criminal inhabitants of the Phantom Zone, Dev-Em, Beppo the Super-Monkey, the residents of the bottle city of Kandor and the real parents of both Superman and Supergirl.

The Silver Age Superman was not alone in the survival of Krypton's destruction, being joined by his cousin Supergirl, the Phantom Zone criminals, Beppo the super-monkey, Krypto the Superdog, a juvenile delinquent named Dev-Em, and the entire population of the city of Kandor, Supergirl's real parents and even Superman's real parents ( in hibernation on a space ship-Superboy # 158 July-1969 ), When the planet exploded, one entire city of Krypton, Argo City, survived the cataclysm.

After Superman manages to rescue the Kryptonian bottled city of Kandor from Brainiac, Kara is reunited with her parents.

* Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman places Smallville as a city in Kansas as well, though Metropolis is located on the east coast ( or maybe in eastern Pennsylvania, it is never stated for sure ) and Superman must fly between the two locations using his super-speed.

* On June 9, 1972 the Illinois State Legislature passed Resolution 572 that declared Metropolis the " Hometown of Superman ," the comic book superhero who is based in the fictional city of Metropolis.

* The city has erected a large Superman statue, and fans created a small Superman museum.

The city holds an annual Superman Celebration held the second weekend in June.

The city of Metropolis in the Superman saga is typically depicted as a large American city, such as Chicago or New York City ( although the author of the original comic book series based Metropolis on Toronto ).

A villain named Massacre arrives in the town, having gotten lost and thinking he was in the " other " Metropolis, the city where Superman actually lives.

In DC Comics, Superman resides in a city called " Metropolis ", and hence, Metropolis, Illinois has a giant statue of him on a main street in downtown Metropolis.

" Luthor is forgotten as Bizarro attempts to emulate Superman, creating havoc in the city of Metropolis and almost exposing Superman's secret identity as Clark Kent.

In that storyline, Superman was coming to terms with the death of his adoptive father ; he was also dealing with 100, 000 Kryptonians now living on Earth, which he had released from the bottled cities on Brainiac's ship ( the same ship that contained the lost Kryptonian city of Kandor ).

In his current incarnation, Krypto's abilities are essentially identical ; however, he possesses normal canine intelligence, though as shown in the storyline with Atlas, Krypto does seem to have a general understanding of speech, and can take initiatives of his own, such as vowing to protect Metropolis from Atlas because of his knowledge of the fact that Superman himself protects and cares for the city, as well as vowing to hurt Atlas for hurting Superman.

Additionally, in the modern version, Lori also had a mission to discover other cities of the continent of Atlantis, a quest completed when Superman later met Aquaman, who revealed he was a native of just such a city.

An extraterrestrial android ( in most incarnations ), Brainiac is a principal foe of Superman, and is responsible for shrinking and stealing Kandor, the capital city of Superman's home planet Krypton.

Supergirl then reveals to Superman that Brainiac shrunk the Kryptonian city of Kandor and placed it in a bottle, that the Brainiac that Superman has been fighting all these years was in fact a swarm of nanomachines sent by the real Brainiac to look for Superman that had possessed Milton Fine, Doomsday, the Brainiac 2. 5 android, and finally Lena Luthor, and that no one has ever seen the actual Brainiac.

Metallo was soon kidnapped and his power source forcibly removed by Lex Luthor who, after discovering its debilitating effects on Kryptonians, created a ring with a kryptonite gem to keep Superman at bay.

Although he attempts to kill Superman on multiple occasions, he also expresses his pleasure with Superman's genius intellect and ability to " keep up with " Luthor's speeches and schemes.

The villains go on a crime spree and banish the Super Friends to the Phantom Zone but keep Superman on Earth, exposing him to Red Kryptonite which causes him to age quickly.

After a battle with the post-Crisis Superman-during which Superman is drastically overpowered by Superboy's pre-Crisis strength while managing to keep Superboy on his toes due to his superior experience -, Superboy realizes he can't turn on his friends and instead helps the Legionnaires defeat the Trapper.

Lori, in turn, revealed that thanks to her people's telepathic powers, she knew that he was really Superman all along, but promised to keep the knowledge of his identity a secret.

In these cases, the Fleischer lead animators, many of whom were not trained in figure drawing, animated roughly and depended upon their assistants, many of whom were inexperienced with animation but were trained in figure drawing, to keep Superman " on model " during his action sequences.

Superman took advantage of this in their first battle by trying to keep him airborne by flying into the sky.

There, Superman is the puppet of an America run by Lex Luthor who is holding the miniaturized city of Kandor hostage with the aid of Brainiac-using red sun radiation to keep the Kandorians powerless-who destroys a Kryptonian family every time Superman defies him.

The story is a version of plots such as The Scarlet Pimpernel, Zorro and Superman, where a hero adopts a mild-mannered disguise to keep his true identity a secret.

Zeroman maintains his secret identity similar to Superman but in reverse, whereas Les doesn't wear glasses and Zeroman does ( the Zero-Specs are also a highly advanced communication system that allows him to keep in constant contact with Ty ).

manipulate molecular structures to create the Fortress of Solitude, synthetic kryptonite, and the virus which gave Jimmy Olsen temporary stretching powers ; retrieve Kryptonian technology through space and time ( implied to be through the Phantom Zone ); manipulate vast quantities of energy ; keep the Cleric alive for millennia ; and influence the minds of Superman and Matrix.

Superman, much to Lobo's dismay, has to destroy the crystal to keep it from going into the sun.

Livewire shatters it, however, with liquid nitrogen, and the Parasite drains Superman of his powers, but then turns on Livewire and does the same to her, intending to keep both of them trapped and alive as a " daily recharge " ( as in " Feeding Time ").

Although fixed dates were given for the debut of historical characters such as the JSA, the debut of the post-Crisis Superman was presented as " 10 years ago " and subsequent dates were expressed the same way, suggesting that the calendar years of these events were fluid and relative to the present rather than fixed, as a way to keep the characters at roughly their present ages.

Meach used his vast array of powers to keep the duo at bay, impersonating a statue of himself and striking Batman with lightning, and imprisoning Superman in a kryptonite ring.

Silver Banshee attempted to collect the billion dollar bounty President Luthor placed on Superman ’ s head in Superman / Batman # 3, but failed, with Batman using an ultrasonic generator to keep her nullified.

In # 8, she takes on the moniker " Vanilla ", and wears a costume equipped with a special mask, that will keep her identity hidden from the likes of Superman and Lex Luthor.

The Atom and the Hawk are killed and the others are no match for Superman though they manage to keep him weathered down.
