He toured as a member of the Sylvian and Fripp tour group, with the final concert at the Royal Albert Hall in December 1994 documented on the album Damage: Live.

That same year, Sakamoto began a long-standing collaboration with David Sylvian when he co-wrote and performed on the Japan track " Taking Islands In Africa ".

In 1982, Sakamoto worked on another collaboration with Sylvian, a single entitled " Bamboo Houses / Bamboo Music ".

In 1985, Sylvian released an instrumental mini-album Alchemy: An Index of Possibilities, in collaboration with Jansen, Hassell and Czukay, a recording that, when re-released in 2003, included the addition of Sylvian's Steel Cathedrals, the soundtrack to his video release of the same name.

The name was intended by Sylvian to be temporary until they could think of something else, but ultimately became permanent.

In addition to Sakamoto's influence on Sylvian, Steve Jansen was also influenced by YMO's drummer Yukihiro Takahashi.

Secrets of the Beehive is the fourth solo album by British singer-songwriter David Sylvian and was released in 1987.

Produced by Sylvian with Steve Nye, it was his first full length release after the break-up of his band Japan in late 1982.
