John Russell Taylor's official biography of Hitchcock, Hitch: The Life and Times of Alfred Hitchcock ( 1978 ), suggests that the story originated after a spell of writer's block during the scripting of another movie project:

As a teenager, he worked at The Rose, a long-defunct movie theater in downtown Colfax, and broke both arms while putting Elizabeth Taylor's name on the marquee.

Escape from the Planet of the Apes begins by establishing that three apes — Cornelius, Zira, and Dr. Milo ( played by Roddy McDowall, Kim Hunter, and Sal Mineo, respectively )— escaped the Earth's destruction by salvaging and repairing the astronaut Taylor's spaceship ( which sank in the first movie ) and piloting it through the shock wave of Earth's destruction, sending the ship through a time warp.

He was featured in Deon Taylor's 2008 movie Nite Tales and played a cowboy racecar driver named Dwight in 2009's film Fast & Furious.

Taylor's television movie and series guest roles have been extensive and include appearances on ER, Veronica's Closet, and recurring roles on Ally McBeal ; Monk and as billionaire Peggy Peabody on The L Word.

Other roles include: starring opposite Jim Carrey in the Andy Kaufman biopic Man on the Moon ( 1999 ); as Joan Vollmer in Beat ( 2000 ) alongside Kiefer Sutherland ; and a leading role in Julie Johnson ( 2001 ) as Lili Taylor's lesbian lover, for which she won an Outstanding Actress award at L. A .' s Outfest.

Taylor's other large roles include the roles of Wooldoor Sockbat and others on the Comedy Central animated series Drawn Together, voice acting for Captain Jack Sparrow in Kingdom Hearts II, and providing the voices for many characters in The Animatrix.

Despite his extensive career as a character actor in a wide array of varying roles, Taylor's niche was in Westerns, of which he appeared in literally dozens of films.

Taylor's animated roles include that of Prudence, the castle's majordomo and love interest of the Grand Duke, in Disney's Cinderella II and Cinderella III: A Twist in Time.

He decided to leave the army and become a cotton planter with his brother Joseph ; this may have been partly due to Zachary Taylor's concerns.

Kortchmar first came to prominence in the mid-1960s playing with bands in his native New York City, such as The Kingbees and the Flying Machine, which included the then-unknown James Taylor ( Kortchmar having been a long-time friend of Taylor's ; both of them summered in Martha's Vineyard in their teens ); in Taylor's autobiographical composition " Fire and Rain ", the line " sweet dreams and flying machines in pieces on the ground " is a reference to the breakup of that band.
