The Rogue Council only made itself known through coded missives, while Panopticon was apparently created by the leaders of the Technocracy to counter it.

This term was also used in the modern fantasy roleplaying game Mage: The Ascension to refer to the Technocracy portrayed in that game, especially their agents used to clean up supernatural messes or eliminate " deviants " ( not unlike Agents in The Matrix ).

Their ideas gained national attention and the " Committee on Technocracy " was formed at Columbia University, by Howard Scott and Walter Rautenstrauch.

However, the group was short-lived and in January 1933 splintered into two other groups, the " Continental Committee on Technocracy " ( led by Harold Loeb ) and " Technocracy Incorporated " ( led by Scott ).

The American economist and sociologist Thorstein Veblen was an early advocate of Technocracy, and was involved in the Technical Alliance as was Howard Scott and M. King Hubbert ( who later developed the theory of peak oil ).

The Technocracy movement was highly popular in the USA for a brief period in the early 1930s, during the Great Depression.

Howard Scott ( April 1, 1890 – January 1, 1970 ) was a controversial engineer who had an interest in technocracy, and helped to form the Technical Alliance, Committee on Technocracy, and Technocracy Incorporated.

Later in 1933 Scott formed Technocracy Incorporated and was its chief engineer.

There was some discontent with Scott's leadership during WWII and a number of technocrats broke away from Technocracy Inc. and established their own breakaway organisation which only lasted for about a year.

The Traditions replenished their numbers ( which had been diminished by the withdrawal of two Traditions, the secretive Ahl-i-Batin, and the Solificati, alchemists plagued by scandal ) with former Technocrats from the Sons of Ether and Virtual Adepts factions, vying for the beliefs of sleepers and with the Technocracy, and perpetually wary of the Nephandi ( who consciously embrace evil and service to a demonic or alien master ) and the Marauders ( who resist Paradox with a magical form of madness ).

The mystical abilities of these non-human entities and their ability to alter reality at will are restricted by the rise of reason and disbelief in the supernatural, and they are forced to rely on more mundane methods in their struggles for supremacy and in their fight against the Technocracy.

However, Technocracy Incorporated continued, adopting distinctive red and grey uniforms for its staff and a fleet of cars in these colors.

Fresco himself cites several theorists and authors for contributing to his ideas, such as Jacques Loeb, who established the Mechanistic Conception of Life ; Edward Bellamy, who wrote the extremely influential book, Looking Backward ; Thorstein Veblen, who influenced the Technocracy movement and Howard Scott, who popularized it ; Alfred Korzybski, who originated General Semantics ; H. In the 1930s, through the influence of Howard Scott and the Technocracy movement that he founded, the term technocracy came to mean government by technical decision making.

Aside from common changes introduced by the World of Darkness metaplot, mages dealt with renewed conflict when the hidden Rogue Council and the Technocracy's Panopticon encouraged the Traditions and Technocracy to struggle once again.

The band's 1987 release, Technocracy, featured the hectic thrash musicianship of COC with a cleaner vocal style than they had in the past.

One group that has advocated a system using energy is the Technocracy movement with a system based on energy accounting where energy is used to " buy " a product or service without being exchanged, so the effect is that products or services are distributed to the user without gain by the provider ( who has the same amount of energy in his or her account regardless ) so allegedly making profit impossible.

The Shenti of Stasis also manifests a powerful presence in the form of the Great Machine ( called Autocthonia by the Technocracy ), a massive technological structure that is in a constant state of self-improvement.

Other heterodox schools active before and during the Great Depression included Technocracy and Georgism.

Ever since a reorganization performed under Queen Victoria in the late 1800s, they call themselves the Technocracy.
