A number of poets belong to both academia and slam: as noted above Jeffrey McDaniel slammed on several poetry slam teams, and has since published several books and currently teaches at Sarah Lawrence College ; Patricia Smith, a four-time national slam champion, went on to win several prestigious literary awards, including being nominated for the 2008 National Book Award, and being inducted into the International Literary Hall of Fame for Writers of African Descent in 2006 ; Bob Holman founded the Nuyorican Poetry Slam has taught for years at the New School, Bard, Columbia and NYU ; Craig Arnold won the Yale Series of Younger Poets Competition and has competed at slams ; Kip Fulbeck, a professor of Art at the University of California, Santa Barbara competed in slam in the early-1990s and initiated the first spoken word course to be taught as part of a college art program's core curriculum ; and poet / academics such as Michael Salinger, Felice Belle, Javon Johnson, Susan B. Anthony Somers-Willett, Robbie Q. Telfer, Phil West, Ragan Fox, and Karyna McGlynn have devoted much attention to the merging of the poetry slam community and the academic community in their respective works.

In January 1968 and March 1968, The Lancet and Science published the first U. S. reports of tall, institutionalized XYY males by Mary Telfer, a biochemist, and colleagues at the Elwyn Institute.

Telfer found five tall, developmentally disabled XYY boys and men in hospitals and penal institutions in Pennsylvania, and since four of the five had at least moderate facial acne, reached the erroneous conclusion that acne was a defining characteristic of XYY males.

In May 1969, at the annual meeting of the American Psychiatric Association, Telfer and her Elwyn Institute colleagues reported that case studies of the institutionalized XYY and XXY males they had found convinced them that XYY males had been falsely stigmatized and that their behavior may not be significantly different from chromosomally normal 46, XY males.

Their home park is Harry C. Pohlman Field at Telfer Park, built in time for the 1982 season.

In October 2009, Human Rights adjudicator Faisal Bhabha ( who at the time served as the Vice-chair of the Tribunal ), ordered Maxcine Telfer, the operator of Audmax Inc., a settlement service that contracts with the federal government to help immigrant women fit into Canadian society, to pay $ 36, 000 to Seema Saadi for terminating her employment after six weeks.

Once again however, Ms. Telfer will receive no legal assistance from the Government, and will have to pay her own legal expenses at the next hearing.

Barney Peterson's colleague at the Chronicle, photographer Jerry Telfer, said it was implausible that Peterson would have faked the photos.

When the youthful prodigy Townsend was first drafted into a Scotland side dominated by the boot of Chalmers since 1989, his brief was to instil a running game more suited to the mobile rucking style the Scots were determined to pursue under coaching guru Jim Telfer.

In April 1968, The New York Times — using Telfer as a main source — introduced the XYY genetic condition to the general public in a three-part series on consecutive days that began with a Sunday front-page story about the planned use of the condition as a mitigating factor in two murder trials in Paris and Melbourne — and falsely reported that Richard Speck was an XYY male and that the condition would be used in an appeal of his murder conviction.

Located on O ' Connor Street in Downtown Ottawa, the centre is primarily used by the Telfer School of Management's Executive Master of Business Administration program.

Leith was established on the Telfer Creek where it empties into the sound.

Jim Telfer stood down after the Grand Slam to concentrate on his professional career as a school master.

The court ordered another hearing, before a different adjudicator, and ordered Ms. Saadi to pay $ 10, 000 for Ms. Telfer ’ s legal expenses-although the HRTO stated that it will use taxpayers ’ money to pay on Ms. Saadi ’ s behalf, and will represent her free-of-charge in the new hearing.

Among the court's specific criticisms of adjudicator Bhabha's ruling were that he had refused to hear key evidence supporting Ms. Telfer ’ s version of events, often accepted Ms. Saadi ’ s version only on her say-so, and that the court could find no link between the evidence Bhabha heard and his conclusions.

However, his family had difficulty settling in Glasgow, and on 3 December 2006, Telfer announced he would not renew his contract with Celtic because he wished to spend more time with his family in Winchester.

On 8 August 2008, Telfer came out of retirement for a second time and joined Leeds United on a non-contract basis after initially training with Leeds to keep fitness.

On 2 February 2009, his contract was cancelled by mutual consent with Telfer saying he didn't want Leeds to spend money paying his wages whilst he wasn't going to play.

Jim Telfer became national coach in 1980.

In 2010, Dirk starred in Prescription: Murder playing Lieutenant Columbo along with Patrick Ryecart and George Telfer.

Following the tribunal's decision, Ms. Telfer was unable to pay the judgement ; in response, lawyers with the Human Rights Legal Support Centre obtained a “ writ of seizure ” ordering the sheriff to seize Telfer ’ s Mississauga home and auction it off to obtaint he $ 36, 000 payment.

On 2 April 2007, Telfer brought forward his retirement and officially left Celtic to be with his family in England.

On 13 July 2007, Telfer came out of retirement, signing a one-year contract with League One side Bournemouth.

On 12 December 2007, Telfer cancelled his contract with Bournemouth to help their financial problems.
