In 1863 the Government passed the Colonial Defence Force Act 1862 creating the first Regular Force.

* 1979 – The Department of Education Organization Act is signed into law creating the US Department of Education and US Department of Health and Human Services.

In Iowa, the Educational Opportunities Act was signed into law in 2006, creating a pool of tax credits for eligible donors to student tuition organizations ( STOs ).

Congress passed and President Bush signed the Homeland Security Act of 2002, creating the Department of Homeland Security, representing the largest restructuring of the U. S. government in contemporary history.

* 1909 – The Parliament of the United Kingdom passes the South Africa Act 1909, creating the Union of South Africa from the British Colonies of the Cape of Good Hope, Natal, Orange River Colony, and the Transvaal Colony.

Following the Coronation, two important Acts were passed through parliament: the Act of Uniformity and the Act of Supremacy, establishing the Protestant Church of England and creating Elizabeth Supreme Governor of the Church of England ( Supreme Head, the title used by her father and brother, was seen as inappropriate for a woman ruler ).

The legislative union of Great Britain and Ireland was brought about by the Act of Union 1800, creating the " United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland ".

** Canadian Confederation: Queen Victoria signs the British North America Act, creating the Dominion of Canada with effect from July 1.

Chapter 28 of the 1535 Act of Henry VIII, which provided that Monmouth, as county town, should return one burgess to Parliament, further stated that other ancient Monmouthshire boroughs were to contribute towards the payment of the member.
