In 2008 the Rhaetian Railway in the Albula / Bernina Landscapes ( the part from Thusis to Tirano, including St. Moritz ) was added to the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

The Albula Alps are separated from the Oberhalbstein Alps in the west by the Septimer Pass and the Julia valley ; from the Plessur Alps in the north-west by the Landwasser valley ; from the Silvretta group in the north-east by the Flüela Pass ; from the Bernina Alps in the south-east by the Maloja Pass and the Inn valley ( upper Engadin ).

Many of the mountain ranges feature extensive glaciers, such as at the Adula, the Albula, the Silvretta, the Bernina, the Bregaglia and the Rätikon ranges.

Three World Heritage Sites are located in the canton: the Benedictine Convent of Saint John, the Swiss Tectonic Arena Sardona and the Rhaetian Railway in the Albula and Bernina Landscapes.

The Oberhalbstein Alps are separated from the Lepontine Alps in the west by the Splügen Pass ; from the Plessur Range in the north by the Albula river valley ; from the Albula Alps in the east by the Septimer Pass and the Julia River ; from the Bernina Range in the south by the Val Bregaglia.

The only tradition specifically attached to Tiberinus is that he was drowned while crossing the river then known as the Albula, but which was ever after known to the Latins as the Tiber.

In the Upper Engadin there is a train from Samedan that connects via Albula tunnel with the rest of Switzerland.
