Alfred Jarry ( 8 September 1873 – 1 November 1907 ) was a French writer born in Laval, Mayenne, France, not far from the border of Brittany ; he was of Breton descent on his mother's side.

There are a number of performing arts groups at Columbia dedicated to producing student theater, including the Columbia Players, King's Crown Shakespeare Troupe ( KCST ), Columbia Musical Theater Society ( CMTS ), NOMADS ( New and Original Material Authored and Directed by Students ), LateNite Theatre, Columbia University Performing Arts League ( CUPAL ), Black Theatre Ensemble ( BTE ), sketch comedy group Chowdah, and improvisational troupes Alfred and Fruit Paunch.

After directing episodes for the revitalized version of ' 50s /' 60s anthology horror series Alfred Hitchcock Presents and Shelley Duvall's Faerie Tale Theatre, Burton received his next big project: Beetlejuice ( 1988 ), a supernatural comedy horror about a young couple forced to cope with life after death, and the family of pretentious yuppies who invade their treasured New England home.

The longest running Broadway production was the 1935 Theatre Guild adaptation with husband and wife Alfred Lunt ( who also directed ) and Lynn Fontanne, which ran for 129 performances.

In 2010 they performed an adaptation of Alfred Jarry's Ubu Roi, called " Ubu " at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe under the name " Awful Pie Theatre.

Comyns Carr, with incidental music by Sullivan ( 1895 ), Imogen in Cymbeline ( 1896 ), the title character in Victorien Sardou and Émile Moreau's play Madame Sans-Gêne ( 1897 ) and Volumnia in Coriolanus ( 1901 ).

In 1926-28, Artaud ran the Alfred Jarry Theatre, along with Roger Vitrac.

Greenstreet appeared in numerous plays in Britain and America, working through most of the 1930s with Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne at the Theatre Guild.

In Australia, its first authorised production opened on 22 May 1886 at the Theatre Royal, Melbourne, produced by J. C. Williamson, starring Frank Thornton, Nellie Stewart and Alice Barnett, conducted by Alfred Cellier, although unauthorised productions had appeared by 1879.

Uta Hagen made her Broadway debut as Nina, at the age of 18, in a production with Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne in 1938 at the Shubert Theatre.

There have been two Royal Scottish Variety Performances, both attended by Queen Elizabeth, and presented by Howard & Wyndham Ltd in Glasgow ` s Alhambra Theatre, which Sir Alfred Butt had opened, in 1958 and 1963..
