Like Alan Wilson, Duane Allman played a key role in bringing slide guitar into rock music, through his work with The Allman Brothers Band, specifically on the 1971 live album At Fillmore East and with Derek and the Dominos ' Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs album.

Such bottles eventually went out of production in the early 1980s, although replicas have been produced since 1985, including a copy of Allman's slide used by another Allman Brothers member, Derek Trucks, which was made of Dunlop Pyrex, giving the same sound as the glass slide, without the danger of shattering.

Allman extended the expressive range of the slide guitar by incorporating the harmonica effects of Sonny Boy Williamson II, most clearly in the Allman Brothers ' cover version of Sonny Boy's " One Way Out ", heard on their album Eat a Peach.

The event, which was attended by over 600, 000 music fans, also featured the Grateful Dead and The Allman Brothers Band.

In January 2007, a tribute album, entitled Endless Highway: The Music of The Band, was released which included contributions by My Morning Jacket, Death Cab for Cutie, Gomez, Guster, Bruce Hornsby, Jack Johnson and ALO, Lee Ann Womack, The Allman Brothers Band, Blues Traveler, Jakob Dylan, and Rosanne Cash, amongst others.

While famous for classic recordings from Rod Stewart, Aretha Franklin, Eric Clapton, Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Rolling Stones and The Allman Brothers, recent hit songs such as " Before He Cheats " by Carrie Underwood and " I Loved Her First " by Heartland continue the city's musical legacy.

Duane Allman, later of Allman Brothers Band fame, once pitched a tent and camped out in the parking lot of FAME studios in an effort to be near the recording sessions occurring there.

Auditions for the Allman Brothers Band were later held at FAME Studios.

Actors who appeared more than once, sometimes in different roles, included Johnny Silver, Amzie Strickland, Eleanor Audley, Sandy Kenyon ( who also appeared in the 2004 reunion special ), Jackie Joseph, Doris Singleton, Peter Hobbs, Len Weinrib, Burt Remsen, George Tyne, Bella Bruck, Jerry Hausner, Herb Vigran, Alvy Moore, Jane Dulo, Bernard Fox, Dabbs Greer, Elvia Allman ( as Herman Glimscher's mother ), and Tiny Brauer.

Allman is credited with popularizing the Allman indent style, also known as BSD indent style.

She also had relationships with musician Gregg Allman, comedian Pauly Shore, bassist Billy Sheehan, guitarist Slash, and Vince Neil of Mötley Crüe.

Deadsy began in 1995, when Elijah Blue Allman ( son of Cher and Gregg Allman ), also known as Phillips Exeter Blue I, started recording a handful of demos ( including Dear and a cover of Texas Never Whispers ) with Alec Puro ( Alec Pure ) and later sent a Juno 106 keyboard to Renn Hawkey ( Dr. Nner ) as an invitation to join the band.

The members of this incarnation were Lesh, Warren Haynes ( guitar & vocals ; also of Gov't Mule and Allman Brothers Band ), Jimmy Herring ( guitar ; The Dead, Allman Brothers Band, Aquarium Rescue Unit, and most recently Widespread Panic ), Rob Barraco ( keyboards ; The Dead, the Zen Tricksters, Dark Star Orchestra ) and John Molo ( drums ; Bruce Hornsby and the Range, The Other Ones, Modereko, Keller Williams, David Nelson Band, Jemimah Puddleduck, and John Fogerty ).

Walden's Macon-based Capricorn Records, spearheaded the rise of Southern rock, and the success of the Allman Brothers paved the way for other Southern rock bands, including Atlanta Rhythm Section, South Carolina-based Marshall Tucker Band and Lynyrd Skynyrd, also founded in Jacksonville.

The performances were seen as a tribute not only to Allman, but also to producer Tom Dowd, who had died the previous year.

Roy's influence on the rock world has also been apparent in recent years, with a tribute song recorded by Jim Keltner and Charlie Watts of The Rolling Stones, and recent on-stage appearances with The Allman Brothers Band and Page McConnell of Phish.

However, like their debut, Power of Love, which also featured the songwriting skills of Gregg Allman and material that fit the group much better than the material on their debut, flopped.

The Allman Brothers, The Black Crowes, Phil Lesh and Friends, Jimmy Herring, Edwin McCain and several more of Woody's friends also performed at the concert.

Bassists included, among others, Dave Schools of Widespread Panic, Oteil Burbridge who had filled Woody's former place in The Allman Brothers, Les Claypool of Primus, Victor Wooten of the Flecktones, George Porter, Jr. of The Meters, Jason Newsted formerly of Metallica, Greg Rzab formerly of The Black Crowes and the Buddy Guy Band, and Andy Hess, also formerly of The Black Crowes.

They have also collaborated with a number of other artists: James Hetfield of Metallica contributed vocals to the song " Man or Ash " on Wiseblood ; Warren Haynes of the Allman Brothers ' Band and Gov't Mule played slide guitar on " Stare Too Long " on America's Volume Dealer ; and Stanton Moore of Galactic played drums on In the Arms of God.

Featuring " tight, Allman Brothers-type dual guitar lines and riffs ," Petra also featured the comical country tune " Lucas McGraw ," which became something of a cult classic, and the seminal " Backslidin ' Blues ," the first contemporary Christian blues song put on vinyl.

" Beck's Bolero " also inspired Duane Allman to take up slide guitar, later his signature style.

It was also interwoven into bassist Oteil Burbridge's bass solos during certain live shows in the late 1990s by The Allman Brothers Band.

Cohl is also a recipient of the 2004 Billboard Legend of Live award, an honour previously bestowed on such artists as Elton John and The Allman Brothers Band.
