** WWII: Appeal of 18 June: General Charles de Gaulle, de facto leader of the Free French Forces, makes his first broadcast appeal over Radio Londres from London rallying French Resistance, calling on all French people to continue the fight against Nazi Germany: " France has lost a battle.

Although Chirac was well-situated in de Gaulle's entourage, being related by marriage to the general's sole companion at the time of the Appeal of 18 June 1940, he was more of a " Pompidolian " than a " Gaullist ".

De Gaulle asked, in his Appeal of 18 June 1940, that every patriot who could reach British territory should do so and join the Free French Army to fight in company with the Allies.

Jozef Maria Laurens Theo " Jo " Cals ( July 18, 1914 – December 30, 1971 ) was a Dutch politician of the defunct Catholic People's Party ( KVP ) now merged into the Christian Democratic Appeal ( CDA ).

De Gaulle, a French government minister who rejected the armistice concluded by Maréchal Philippe Pétain and who had escaped to Britain, exhorted the French to resist in his BBC broadcast " Appeal of 18 June " ( Appel du 18 juin ), which had a stirring effect on morale throughout France and its colonies.

In France, de Gaulle's " Appeal of the 18th of June " ( Appel du 18 juin ) was not widely heard that day but, together with de Gaulle's BBC broadcasts in subsequent days and his later communications, came to be widely remembered throughout France and its colonial empire as the voice of national honour and freedom.

To this day, the Appeal of 18 June remains one of the most famous speeches in French history.

On 18 November 2011 The Honourable Lord Justice Lewison ( Kim Lewison ) at The Court of Appeal refused permission to appeal on three counts for the anti-suit injunction granted on 20 May 2011, for the preliminary hearing granted on 12 July 2011, and for the stay of costs order of 12 September 2011 which was requested by Davies.

On 18 June 2009, the Court of Appeal in England and Wales made a landmark ruling that resulted in the Lord Chief Justice, Lord Judge, allowing the first-ever criminal trial to be held without a jury by invoking Section 44 of the Criminal Justice Act 2003.

The case was brought before the House of Lords ( Lord Bridge, Lord Brandon, Lord Oliver, Lord Goff and Lord Jauncey ) on 18 May 1989 which upheld the decision of the Court of Appeal on the grounds that English law did not contain any rule allowing a preliminary injunction against the application of an Act of Parliament.

Desmond James Conrad Ackner, Baron Ackner, PC, QC ( 18 September 1920 – 21 March 2006 ) was a British judge and Lord of Appeal in Ordinary.

The Court comprises the Chief Justice ( who is also the Chief Justice of the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal ), the Associate Chief justice, twenty-one judges and six supernumerary ( or semiretired ) Justices, who sit in 18 different locations around the province.

On June 24 – 25, 1937, a meeting of the Appeal faction's National Action Committee voted to ratched up the rhetoric against American Labor Party and Republican nominee for mayor of New York Fiorello LaGuardia, a favorite son of many in Socialist ranks, and to reestablish their newspaper, The Socialist Appeal.
