The Atlanta Falcons are a professional American football team based in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Falcons play their home games at the Georgia Dome in downtown Atlanta, but construction is likely to begin in 2014 on a new stadium with play beginning in the 2017 season.

The Atlanta Falcons Football Team is owned by business man Arthur Blank, and eight limited partners.

As of 2011 the Atlanta Falcons Executive Committee consisted of ten people: Arthur Blank, Owner and Chairman ; Rich McKay, President & CEO ; Thomas Dimitroff, General Manager ; Kim Shreckengost, Executive Vice President / Chief of Staff for AMB Group, LLC ; Greg Beadles, Senior Vice President-Chief Financial Officer ; Jim Smith, Chief Marketing Officer ; Danny Branch, Vice President of Information Technology ; Dave Cohen, Vice President of Sales and Service ; Reggie Roberts, Vice President of Football Communications and Tim Zulawski, VP of Sponsorship Sales and Service.

The Atlanta Falcons franchise began on June 30, 1965 when NFL Commissioner Pete Rozelle granted ownership to 41 year-old Rankin Smith Sr .. Smith an Executive Vice President of Life Insurance Company of Georgia at the time, paid $ 8. 5 million the highest price in NFL history at the time 1965 for an NFL franchise.

Former commissioner Pete Rozelle and Smith made the deal in about five minutes and the Atlanta Falcons brought the largest and most popular sport to the city of Atlanta.

The Atlanta Falcons Football Club received its nickname on August 29, 1965.

The Falcons had their first Monday Night Football game in Atlanta during the 1970 season.

In 1992, the Atlanta Falcons opened a new chapter in their history moving into the newly constructed Georgia Dome.

The Atlanta Falcons began the Arthur Blank era of ownership with a 9 – 6 – 1 record and a berth in the playoffs as

The Atlanta Falcons hold the record among all major American sports leagues for the longest streak of seasons without consecutive winning seasons, a streak that lasted from 1966 – 2008.

The first half was a defensive struggle, with the first points coming off of a safety by the Falcons, giving Atlanta a 2-0 lead.

The Atlanta Falcons wore 1966 throwback jerseys for 2 home games in 2009 – against the Carolina Panthers on September 20 and against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on November 29.

Urlacher, whose jersey was among the league's best-selling in 2002, was featured on Nike commercials with former Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick.

The two conference title games led to a hot bidding war between the clubs for players ; the Niners signed cornerback Deion Sanders from the Atlanta Falcons and also signed linebacker Ken Norton, Jr. from the Cowboys ; they defeated the Cowboys 21-14 in the 1994 regular season and then hosted the Cowboys in that year's Conference title game, with the Cowboys now coached by Barry Switzer ; the 49ers raced to a 21-0 lead in the first seven minutes of the first quarter and won 38-28 en route to Super Bowl XXIX.

Supporters of Jacksonville's bid included NFL Commissioner Paul Tagliabue, President Neil Austrian, Vice President Roger Goodell, Bud Adams of the Houston Oilers, Rankin Smith of the Atlanta Falcons and Ken Hofmann of the Seattle Seahawks.

In the team's final game of the regular season against the Atlanta Falcons, needing a win to earn a playoff berth, the Jaguars caught a bit of luck when Morten Andersen missed a 30 yard field goal with less than a minute remaining that would have given the Falcons the lead.

In April 2007, Pike County announced the first-in-the-nation comprehensive energy strategy which was developed in partnership with the Southern States Energy Board in Atlanta, Georgia.

She served on the Policy Advisory Board of The Atlanta Project ( TAP ) of The Carter Center, addressing social ills associated with poverty and quality of life citywide.

Barbe was also a former professional singer, meeting her husband while touring with the Buddy Morrow Orchestra, and gained a bit of notoriety in later years appearing in commercials and on television shows based on her recognition as the “ Time Lady .” As a result of her extensive work, she was an early member and a Board member of the Atlanta branch of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists.

He and other leaders were successful in getting the Atlanta School Board to support improving education for black children.

On April 6, 2002, Mohammed was inducted as a member of the Martin Luther King Jr. International Board of Preachers at Morehouse College, Atlanta, GA. Mohammed was honored by having his portrait displayed in the International Chapel of Morehouse College.

2000: President's Award, The Atlanta Planning Advisory Board

On June 28, 2007, the NHLPA's Executive Board selected Michael Cammalleri ( Montreal Canadiens ), Chris Chelios ( Atlanta Thrashers ), Shawn Horcoff ( Edmonton Oilers ), Eric Lindros ( retired ) and Robyn Regehr ( Calgary Flames ) to form a search committee for a new Executive Director.

In 1994, after a $ 10 million gift from the Robert W. Woodruff Foundation, the Board of Trustees at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, named its business school after Roberto Goizueta.

After his retirement in 1967 from Morehouse, Mays was elected president of the Atlanta Public Schools Board of Education, where he supervised the peaceful desegregation of Atlanta's public schools.

Using Works Progress Administration and city funds, the City of Atlanta and the Fulton County Board of Commissioners signed a contract in 1935 to provide library coverage throughout the county.

In June 2012, a feasibility study report presented to the State Transportation Board of Georgia indicated that a high-speed rail between Atlanta and Jacksonville would be economically feasible.

The station is licensed to the Atlanta Board of Education ( hence the " ABE " in the broadcast callsign ), although a non-profit umbrella corporation has been established to oversee the station's daily operations.

Each NPU sends a representative to the Atlanta Planning Advisory Board, which is a city-wide entity that was created contemporaneously with the NPU System.

It operates under a charter negotiated between NCS and the Atlanta Board of Education.

With over 80 affiliates associated with NBN, Jackson wanted to see more radio stations owned by African Americans and therefore, conceived and started the National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters ( NABOB ) in Atlanta as a complement to his position on the NAB Board.

Smith served as chairman of the Fulton County and State Democratic Conventions and was president of the Atlanta Board of Education.

He was instrumental in organizing the North Avenue Presbyterian Church ( which still stands ) and was re-elected to the Atlanta Board of Education.

She is currently an active member of the Junior League of Atlanta and a former member of the Board of Directors of the YWCA of greater Atlanta.

During that time, he was elected a charter member of the " Million Dollar Club " of the Atlanta Real Estate Board.

He was elected to the Board of Aldermen of Atlanta in 1887 and 1888, similar to the Atlanta City Council today.

Throughout the 1870s he represented the Third Ward in council and served on the Atlanta Board of Education and in the 1880s he served as water commissioner.
