The British Film Institute has produced a poll ranking what they consider to be the 100 greatest British films of all time, the BFI Top 100 British films.

He said: " Our role, and that of the BFI, should be to support the sector in becoming even more dynamic and entrepreneurial, helping UK producers to make commercially successful pictures that rival the quality and impact of the best international productions.

In August 2008, the BFI announced a new release of Salò on both high-definition Blu-ray and standard-definition DVD, claiming it to be " fully uncut and in its most complete version ," and that " the film has been re-mastered from the original Italian restoration negatives " and would be accompanied by a second disc containing extensive additional features.

Funded by the BFI and produced by film theorist Colin MacCabe, Caravaggio became Jarman's most famous film, and marked the beginning of a new phase in Jarman's filmmaking career: from now on all his films would be partly funded by television companies, often receiving their most prominent exhibition in TV screenings.

The movie will be co-produced by French company studio StudioCanal and Coogan's own production company Baby Cow, with support from BBC Films and the BFI Film Fund.

The film is among the top ten of the BFI list of the 50 films you should see by the age of 14.

Since the remastered version was sourced from the original negative, which does not include the poetry reading, the additional footage was sourced from a 35 mm print of the film held by the BFI National Archive.

Besides the BFI edition with the often missing poetry-quotation scene, there exists a French DVD version, distributed by Gaumont Columbia Tristar Home Video, containing a transfer that is a restored, high-definition, colour-corrected version of the film ( superior to the original Criterion and BFI editions ), however, it has no English subtitles, as it is a French product for French cinephiles.

The BFI re-issue does indeed contain the missing 25 second poem intact, but according to Criterion's website this sequence is not an official part of the film, because the footage is not present in the interpositive that the camera negative was struck from ( which formed the basis of their transfer ).
