From the Reformed, the Heidelberg and Genevan Catechisms along with the Belgic Confession with the Canons of Dordt.

The Belgic Confession of 1561, a Dutch confession of faith, was partly based on the Gallic Confession.

This and the Belgic Confession were adopted as confessional standards in the first synod of the Dutch Reformed Church in 1571.

After the death of Jacob Arminius his followers presented objections to the Belgic Confession and the teaching of John Calvin, Theodore Beza, and their followers.

On predestination, the Belgic Confession of Faith ( 1561 ) states:

These include the historic Apostles ' Creed, Nicene Creed, and Athanasian Creed ; the traditional Reformed Belgic Confession, the Heidelberg Catechism ( with its compendium ), the Canons of Dort, and the Belhar Confession.

In the Netherlands, the Catechism was approved by the Synods of Wesel ( 1568 ), Emden ( 1571 ), Dort ( 1578 ), the Hague ( 1586 ), as well as the great Synod of Dort of 1618-1619, which adopted it as one of the Three Forms of Unity, together with the Belgic Confession and the Canons of Dort.

The seminary strictly adheres to the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Larger and Shorter Catechisms and to the Belgic Confession, the Heidelberg Catechism, and the Canons of Dort.

Following his death, his challenge to the Reformed standard, the Belgic Confession, provoked ample discussion at the Synod of Dort, which crafted the five points of Calvinism in response to Arminius's teaching.

Arminius advocated revising the Belgic Confession and the Heidelberg Catechism, but was not explicit, until much later when the debate became an open conflict.

Before the assembly, Arminius finally explained his call to rewrite the Belgic Confession and the Heidelberg Catechism, saying that he did not feel obligated to explain his position before, for " as a professor, he considered himself subject only to the authority of the Leiden Curators and the States, not to the Church ".

The Canons of Dordt, together with the previously adopted Belgic Confession and the Heidelberg Catechism, were called the Drie formulieren van Enigheid ( Three Forms of Unity ).

Along with the Canons of Dordt the URCNA also holds the Belgic Confession and the Heidelberg Catechism as doctrinal standards.

Shepherd's followers claim that the Covenant of Works between Adam and God in the Garden of Eden was not originally part of covenant theology, following John Murray's observation that a covenant of works at creation does not receive explicit mention in early confessions such as the French Confession ( 1559 ), the Scots Confession ( 1560 ), the Belgic Confession ( 1561 ), the Thirty-Nine Articles ( 1562 ), the Heidelberg Catechism ( 1563 ), and the Second Helvetic Confession ( 1566 ).

It seems that, whatever their Germanic ancestry, at least some of the Belgic tribes spoke a variety of the Celtic Gaulish language as their main language by Caesar's time, and all of them used such languages in at least some contexts.

In 1995, the Synod officially adopted the Belgic Confession of Faith and the Canons of Dort, which along with Heidelberg are known as the Three Forms of Unity which are commonly used together by Reformed churches ( especially those coming out of the Dutch branch of Reformed churches ).

According to Suetonius, Claudius sailed from Boulogne, and it is usually assumed that the main force under Plautius sailed from the same place, but it is possible that Plautius's forces sailed from the mouth of the Rhine, which Strabo names as a point of departure used for crossings to Britain in the early 1st century ; ships commonly sailed along the coast of Belgic Gaul to the territory of the Morini, before taking a relatively short open-sea crossing to Britain.

Like other Reformed churches, they teach that salvation is by grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone, follow Reformed ( Calvinist ) theology, and have adopted the Three Forms of Unity ( Belgic Confession, Heidelberg Catechism, and Canons of Dort ) as their doctrinal standards.

Unconditional election is drawn from the doctrines of salvation adopted by Augustine of Hippo, was first codified in the Belgic Confession ( 1561 ), re-affirmed in the Canons of Dort ( 1619 ), which arose from the Quinquarticular Controversy, and is represented in the various Reformed confessions such as the Westminster Standards ( 1646 ).

The WSC Board of Trustees and Faculty pledge their commitment to those full historic statements which have been the doctrinal bond of fellowship for churches of Reformed persuasion for more than three centuries: The Westminster Confession of Faith, the Westminster Larger Catechism, the Westminster Shorter Catechism, Heidelberg Catechism, Belgic Confession of Faith, and the Canons of Dort.

With most faculty and board members being formerly associated with the Christian Reformed Church in North America, and now affiliated with the recently-created United Reformed Churches, all members of the faculty and of the Board of Trustees are committed to the Holy Scriptures as the infallible and inerrant Word of God, and in conformity with the Word are committed to the ecumenical creeds of Christendom ( the Apostles ' Creed, Athanasian Creed, and Nicene Creed ) and the Reformed Confessions ( the Belgic Confession, the Heidelberg Catechism, the Canons of Dort, and the Westminster Confession of Faith ) as faithfully setting forth the system of truth taught in Scripture.

The college has no denominational affiliation, but does hold to Presbyterian and Reformed confessional standards ( the Westminster Confession and Catechisms, the Belgic Confession, the Heidelberg Catechism, and the Canons of Dort ).

As a confessional church, the churches subscribe to the Three Forms of Unity: Canons of Dort, Belgic Confession and the Heidelberg Catechism.

Examples include Belgic Confession, article 14, which speaks of Adam having received and transgressed the " commandment of life "; or Heidelberg Catechism, Question and Answer 6 affirming the goodness of man in creation.

Their tribal names and personal names are generally considered Celtic, and there are also signs of an older Belgic language which once existed between the contact zone of the Germanic and Celtic languages.

The Battle of the Sabis, also ( erroneously ) known as the Battle of the Sambre or the Battle against the Nervians ( or Nervii ), was fought in 57 BC in the area known today as Wallonia, between the legions of the Roman Republic and an association of Belgic tribes, principally the Nervii ( a Belgian tribe ).

The Suessiones were a Belgic tribe of Western Belgium in the 1st century BC, inhabiting the region between the Oise and the Marne, based around the present-day city of Soissons.

It drew up ninety-three canonical rules, and confirmed the authority of the Belgic Confession and the Heidelberg Catechism.

Second, Caesar uses the term Germani, for a very specific tribal grouping in northeastern Belgic Gaul, west of the Rhine, the largest part of which were the Eburones, making clear that he was using the name in the local way.

The words Walloon and Wallons can be seen in the book of Charles White, The Belgic revolution ( 1835 ): " The restless Wallons, with that adventurous daring which is their historical characteristic, abandoned their occupations, and eagerly seizing the pike and the musket marched towards the center of the commotion .".

Until enough crossings were established, the river presented a formidable barrier, with Belgic tribes and Anglo-Saxon kingdoms being defined by which side of the river they were on.

The Romans allies named them as having one collective contribution of men to the Belgic revolt against him, within which the Eburones were the most important.

It is clear that the Belgic tribes of Gaul were culturally influenced by both Gaulish and Germanic neighbours, but the details, for example which languages they spoke, remains uncertain.

Ships of the company were also shifting from one company to another, like the Belgic, built for the White Star Line, which was transferred to the service of the Red Star Line under the name, or the Regina became the Westernland.

There are two large Belgic sites, only one of which has been partly investigated.

On the other hand, linguists have proposed that there is evidence that at least part of the Belgic population had previously spoken an Indo European language related to, but distinct from, Celtic and Germanic, and amongst the northern Belgae, Celtic may never have been the language of the majority.

Edith Wightman proposed that Caesar can be read as treating only the southwestern Belgic tribes, the Suessiones, Viromandui and Ambiani and perhaps some of their neighbours, as the true ethnic Belgae ; as opposed to those in a political and military alliance with them.
