When the Pannerdens Kanaal was dug between 1701 and 1709, the easternmost tip of the Betuwe ( including the towns of Pannerden and Lobith ) was cut off from the rest of the region.

The Batavians were a sub-tribe of the Germanic Chatti tribal group who had migrated to the region between the Old Rhine and Waal rivers ( still today called the Betuwe after them ) in what became the Roman province of Germania Inferior ( S Netherlands / Nordrhein ).

Betuweroute is the official name, after the Betuwe area through which it passes, but the line is popularly referred to as Betuwelijn, after an older track in the same region.

The Groene Hart ( Green Heart ) of the Randstad is a more or less rural area amidst Holland's largest cities ; the Betuwe is a less densely populated green region along the large Dutch rivers.

The provinces of North Holland, South Holland, Zeeland, Utrecht and the Gelderlandic region of Betuwe are the parts of the Netherlands which make up the region in which western Dutch cuisine is found.

The Batavi ( the name is believed to derive from a West Germanic root also present in " better " ( possibly meaning " superior men ")) moved into the Betuwe in the late 1st century BC.

The remainder of this land is nowadays known as Betuwe.

Gelderland is geographically divided into three regions: the Veluwe in the north, the Betuwe in the southwest and the Achterhoek ( literally meaning the " back corner ") or Graafschap ( which originally means earldom or county ) in the east.

It is located in the most eastern part of the Betuwe.

The new municipality with approximately 10. 173 hectares ( 100 x 100 m2 ) is one of the largest municipalities in the Western Betuwe.

Tiel is the largest town in the Betuwe area, which is famous for being one of the centres of Dutch fruit production.

The Betuwe ( from batawjō, " good island ", from Germanic bat-" good, excellent " and awjō " island, land near water ") is an area in the Netherlands in the province of Gelderland.

The Betuwe is situated between the Waal and Rhine / Lek rivers, surrounding the Linge stream, and is famous for its fruit production.

" De Betuwe " is also the name of a jam factory in the town of Tiel.

Linge is a river in the Betuwe that is over 100 km long, which makes it one of the longest rivers that flow entirely within the Netherlands.

It has a population of 2, 851 ( 1 January 2009 ), and is located in the very eastern tip of the Betuwe, 2 km to the south of Huissen, between the cities of Arnhem and Nijmegen.

It appears from records in Liège that all three were the sons of Otto ( or Odo ), the above-mentioned earlier Count of Loon ; or alternatively of one Rudolf, the earlier count of Avernas, who is thought to have been related to the counts of Betuwe and archbishops of Utrecht, in the modern Netherlands.

Elst is situated in the Betuwe, between the cities of Nijmegen and Arnhem.

On 21 September, the III ./ Landstorm was committed to action near the town of Elst on the Arnhem-Nijmegen highway ( in the Eastern part of the Betuwe, then known as men's island or " Manneneiland " due to it being enclosed by large rivers and all civilians having been evacuated ).

Tiel once housed the famous jam factory De Betuwe.

Tiel can be a good starting point to explore the rest of the scenic Betuwe area, particularly in May when all the fruit trees in the surrounding areas are in bloom.

The Linge flows to Zoelen, a small village north of Tiel and from there on meanders through the Betuwe, to end in the Boven Merwede near Gorinchem.

A major freight railroad, the Betuweroute, passes through the Betuwe.
