The College of Science and Letters is divided into six departments: the Department of Applied Mathematics, the Department of Biological, Chemical and Physical Sciences, the Department of Computer Science, the Lewis Department of Humanities, the Department of Mathematics and Science Education, and the Department of Social Sciences.

In 1791 he was made a member of the Academy of Sciences and from that time he helped to edit the journal Annales de Chimie ( Chemical annals ), although he left the country for a while during the height of the French Revolution.

Building on this theory, the chemist Linus Pauling published in 1931 what some consider one of the most important papers in the history of chemistry: " On the Nature of the Chemical Bond ".

Building on this article, Pauling's 1939 textbook: On the Nature of the Chemical Bond would become what some have called the " Bible " of modern chemistry.

The construction of the K. C. Roy Hall in the Electrical Engineering Building, expansion of the Chemical Engineering Building, construction of the Gymnasium ( now Indoor Stadium ), a revolving Theatrical Stage, the Wind Mills for pumping out the water from the Play Grounds are all Alumni creations.

Soon, construction began of the first academic building on the new site, known as the Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Building, later renamed Engineering 1 and now named after Douglas Wright, UW's first Dean of Engineering.

The Hearst Memorial Mining Building at the University of California, Berkeley is currently home to the university's Materials Science and Engineering Department, with research and teaching spaces for the subdisciplines of Biomaterials ; Chemical and Electrochemical Materials ; Computational Materials ; Electronic, Magnetic and Optical Materials ; and Structural Materials.

USTU has 20 faculties including: Metallurgical, Chemical Engineering, Building Materials, Civil Engineering, Physics and physics engineering, Radio Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Heat Power Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Economics and Management, Military Science, Physical Training, Humanities, Continuing education, and a Graduate school.

New additions to the campus include the Cahill Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics and the Walter and Leonore Annenberg Center for Information Science and Technology, which opened in 2009, and the Warren and Katherine Schlinger Laboratory for Chemistry and Chemical Engineering followed in March 2010.

Engineering 6 opened on 28 October 2011, and houses the Department of Chemical Engineering.

The Umatilla Chemical Depot opened in 1941, to gear up for World War II.

What is now Chemical Road, following Plymouth Creek, was opened in 1759 to provide access to a new gristmill.

On August 21, 2006, the trial of Saddam Hussein and six codefendants, including Hassan al-Majid (" Chemical Ali "), opened on charges of genocide against the Kurds.
