* May 1 – Pierre Le Moyne d ' Iberville founds the first European settlement in the Mississippi River Valley, at Fort Maurepas ( Ocean Springs, Mississippi ).

The group set out for California, but about half the party left the original group at Soda Springs, Idaho, and proceeded to the Willamette Valley in Oregon, leaving their wagons at Fort Hall.

The trail then proceeded almost due west to meet the main trail at Fort Hall ; alternatively, a branch trail headed almost due south to meet the main trail near the present town of Soda Springs, Idaho.

Just west of Soda Springs the Bear River turns southwest as it heads for The Great Salt Lake, and the main trail turns northwest to follow the Portneuf River valley to Fort Hall, Idaho.

On the main trail about west of Soda Springs Hudspeth's Cutoff ( established 1849 and used mostly by California trail users ) took off from the main trail heading almost due west, bypassing Fort Hall.

From north to south, it passes through or near Casper, Wyoming ; Cheyenne, Wyoming ; Fort Collins, Colorado ; Denver, Colorado ; Colorado Springs, Colorado ; Pueblo, Colorado ; Raton, New Mexico ; Las Vegas, New Mexico ; Santa Fe, New Mexico ; Albuquerque, New Mexico ; Socorro, New Mexico ; Truth or Consequences, New Mexico and Las Cruces, New Mexico.

Local residents generally use the term Denver area or Denver metro area which may informally mean anything from the continuously urbanized area within the six central counties of the MSA to the Front Range Urban Corridor north of Colorado Springs and south of Fort Collins.

United States Army outpost, Fort Stockton, was established in 1858 at Comanche Springs to guard the San Antonio-El Paso Mail.

The town of Fort Stockton began near the Fort Stockton army post at Comanche Springs as St. Gall, but was renamed in 1880.

Taylor includes in the mural Quanah Parker at Roaring Springs, Judge Henry H. Campbell in his dugout prior to the establishment of the Matador Ranch, Dude Barton, an honoree of the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame in Fort Worth, and Shannon Davidson, a long-distance rider who won a Hollywood movie contract.

The county is divided into eight townships: Allendale, Antioch, Blue Springs, Fort Bragg Military Reservation, McLauchlin, Raeford, Quewhiffle, and Stonewall.

The first Fort Lewis army post was constructed in Pagosa Springs, Colorado, in 1878, and was relocated in 1880 to Hesperus, Colorado, on the southern slopes of the La Plata Mountains.

Buena was located east of Garden Canyon on a railroad whistle-stop between Lewis Springs and Fort Huachuca.

Bonita Springs is served by local editions of the Fort Myers News-Press and Naples Daily News.

Camp Lawton — also referred to as Fort Lawton — was built in what is today Magnolia Springs State Park ; the location was favorable because the springs provided potable water and because of its proximity to the Augusta and Savannah Railroad.

Midway referred to a coal camp in eastern Crawford County, Kansas that was " midway " between Baxter Springs, Kansas and Fort Scott, Kansas.

Stockton Springs is home to Fort Point State Park and Fort Point Light, both located on Fort Point, a peninsula on Cape Jellison.

Goodwin's formulation: " all those Apache peoples who have lived within the present boundaries of the state of Arizona during historic times with the exception of the Chiricahua, Warm Springs, and allied Apache, and a small band of Apaches known as the Apache Mansos, who lived in the vicinity of Tucson.

From there they followed the Rio Grande up to Mesilla and then went west towards Tucson, passing by many prominent locations in New Mexico and Arizona history, such as Cooke's Canyon, Doubtful Canyon, San Simon Valley, Apache Pass, Sulphur Springs Valley, the San Pedro and Dragoon Springs.

From 1886-1887, approximately 491 Apaches were held prisoner at Fort Marion ; many were of the Chiricahua and Warm Springs Apache bands from Arizona.

Noticing they were being trailed by a single troop of cavalry, the Apache lay an ambush seven miles north of General Springs, where a fork of East Clear Creek cuts a gorge into the Mogollon Rim.

He now lives in the Palm Springs, CA area where he celebrated his 80th birthday with a huge surprise party thrown by Apache with friends and family in 2011.

Like most of the Civil War era engagements in Arizona ( Dragoon Springs, Stanwix Station, and Apache Pass ) Picacho Pass occurred near remount stations along the former Butterfield Overland Stagecoach route, which opened in 1859 and ceased operations when the war began.

The area was relatively peaceful despite an occasional attack from the Warm Springs ( Mimbres ) band of the Chiricahua Apache who lived nearby at the headwaters of the Gila and Mimbres rivers.

The Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians, a federally recognized tribe of Maidu and Miwok people, are headquartered in Shingle Springs.

The city has a high proportion of Native Americans, most of whom are members of the Cahuilla tribe in proximity to the Agua Caliente Cahuilla tribal board in Palm Springs ( see also Mission Creek Indian Reservation ).

The Wichita tribe placed a village four miles southeast of the modern-day town of Rush Springs in the mid-1800s.

Oil Springs Reservation is an Indian reservation of the Seneca tribe located in New York, USA.

Although the reservation is controlled by the Seneca tribe, as of 2005 no tribal members actually live on the Oil Springs Reservation.

Remnants of the tribe continued to travel from the Warm Springs Indian Reservation to fish and to gather berries near Estacada through the 1930s.

Long before Barton Springs Pool was built, the springs were considered sacred and were used for purification rituals by the Tonkawa Native American tribe who inhabited the area.

The Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians, Shingle Springs Rancheria ( Verona Tract ), California is a federally recognized tribe of Maidu and Miwok people in El Dorado County, California.

His conclusion was bolstered by oral history from the local Warm Springs tribe, which recounted the massive eruption and collapse of the ancient peak.
