Chugach () or Chugachigmiut is the name of an Alaska Native culture and group of people in the region of the Kenai Peninsula and Prince William Sound.

The Chugach people are an Alutiiq ( Pacific Eskimo ) people who speak the Chugach dialect of the Alutiiq language.

Chugach Alaska Corporation, an Alaska Native regional corporation created under the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971, also derives its name from the Chugach people, many of whom are shareholders of the corporation.

Because of their small population they were often raided and their territory boundaries were under pressure from the Chugach to the west.

The name " Chugach " is from an Eskimo tribal name recorded by Russian explorers and written by them " Chugatz " and " Tchougatskoi ".

The borough contains part of the protected areas of Chugach National Forest, Glacier Bay National Park, Glacier Bay Wilderness, Tongass National Forest, Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve, Wrangell-Saint Elias Wilderness and the Russell Fjord Wilderness.
