It contained Morning Prayer, Evening Prayer, the Litany, and Holy Communion and also the occasional services in full: the orders for Baptism, Confirmation, Marriage, ' prayers to be said with the sick ' and a Funeral service.

It also set out in full the " propers " ( that is the parts of the service which varied week by week or, at times, daily throughout the Church's Year ): the Collect and the Epistle and Gospel readings for the Sunday Communion Service.

Further developed, and fully translated into English, this Communion service was included, one year later, in 1549, in a full prayer book, set out with daily offices, readings for Sundays and Holy Days, the Communion Service, Public Baptism, of Confirmation, of Matrimony, The Visitation of the Sick, At a Burial and the Ordinal ( added in 1550 ).

He appears nevertheless, to have been resigned to being unable for the present to establish in parishes the weekly practice of receiving Communion ; so he restructured the service so as to allow ante-Communion as a distinct rite of worship — following the Communion rite through the readings and offertory, as far as the intercessory " Prayer for the Church Militant ".

Both differ substantially from the Book of Common Prayer, though the latter includes in the Order Two form of the Holy Communion a very slight revision of the prayer book service, largely along the lines proposed for the 1928 Prayer Book.

In the Seventh-day Adventist Church the Holy Communion service customarily is celebrated once per quarter.

Among some Orthodox monastics ( and occasionally other faithful ), the canonical hours and preparation for Holy Communion may be replaced by praying the Jesus Prayer a specified number of times dependent on the service being replaced.

This is different from the Sacred Mysteries ( Holy Communion ) which were received earlier in the service.

Most cathedrals have at least three services of worship every day, often taking the form of matins, Holy Communion and an evening service which is often sung by the precentor and choir.

In German, the Scandinavian languages, Finnish, and some English Lutherans, use the word " Mass " for their corresponding service, but in most English-speaking churches, they call it the " Divine Service ", " Holy Communion, or " the Holy Eucharist ".

In the Russian Orthodox Church, during the Coronation of the Tsar, the Anointing took place just before the receipt of Holy Communion, toward the end of the service.

She herself died in 1558, and in 1559 Elizabeth I reintroduced the 1552 book with a few modifications to make it acceptable to more traditionally minded worshippers, notably the inclusion of the words of administration from the 1549 Communion Service alongside those of 1552.

The Church of England's 1549 Book of the Common Prayer still had prayer for the dead, as ( in the Communion Service ): " We commend into thy mercy all other thy servants, which are departed hence from us with the sign of faith and now do rest in the sleep of peace: grant unto them, we beseech thee, thy mercy and everlasting peace.

Three elements have been important in holding the Communion together: First, the shared ecclesial structure of the component churches, manifested in an episcopal polity maintained through the apostolic succession of bishops and synodical government ; second, the principle of belief expressed in worship, investing importance in approved prayer books and their rubrics ; and third, the historical documents and standard divines that have influenced the ethos of the Communion.
