Along with Hillsborough County Sheriff ’ s Office, Tampa Police Department, the State Attorney ’ s Office, the FBI, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms were involved in the operation.

Spenser was a former State trooper assigned to the Suffolk County DA's Office ( although some novels state that he also worked out of the Middlesex County DA's Office, for example in Walking Shadow and the pilot episode of Spenser: For Hire said he was a Boston Police detective ), and regularly seeks help from ( or sometimes butts heads with ) Martin Quirk ( originally a lieutenant, later a captain ) of the Boston Police Department.

The Maryland State Police ( MSP ); Terrence B. Sheridan, Superintendent and Maryland Transportation Authority Police ( MdTA ); Marcus L. Brown, Chief are responsible for law enforcement on Interstate highways and transportation facilities that traverse Baltimore County.

The remainder of the county is patrolled by the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office and New York State Police.

Examples include electoral districts such as Washington's 6th congressional district and Tennessee's 1st congressional district ; school districts such as Granite School District and Los Angeles Unified School District ; economic districts such as the Reedy Creek Improvement District ; metropolitan areas such as the Seattle metropolitan area, and metropolitan districts such as the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District, the Metropolitan Police Service of Greater London, as well as other local districts like the York Rural Sanitary District, the Delaware River Port Authority, the Nassau County Soil and Water Conservation District, and C-TRAN.

Law enforcement services for the county are provided by the Carroll County Sheriff's Office, Maryland State Police, as well as several municipalities having their own police forces.

On December 10, 2008, the California Highway Patrol announced its officers, along with San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department deputies and US Marine Corps Military Police, would jointly staff some sobriety and drivers license checkpoints.

The area formerly known as " County Dublin " is now defined in legislation solely as the " Dublin Region " under the Local Government Act, 1991 ( Regional Authorities ) ( Establishment ) Order, 1993, and this is the terminology officially used by the four Dublin administrative councils in press releases concerning the former county area.

When Stanford was Governor of California, the Legislature passed on April 22, 1863, " An Act to Authorize the Board of Supervisors of the City and County of San Francisco to take and subscribe One Million Dollars to the Capital Stock of the Western Pacific Rail Road Company and the Central Pacific Rail Road Company of California and to provide for the payment of the same and other matters relating thereto " ( which was later amended by Section Five of the " Compromise Act " of April 4, 1864 ).

So it was that New Castle lawyer Thomas McKean denounced the Stamp Act in the strongest terms, and Kent County native John Dickinson became the " Penman of the Revolution.

Greater London was formally created by the London Government Act 1963, which took force on 1 April 1965, replacing the former administrative counties of Middlesex and London, adding the City of London, which was not under the London County Council, and absorbing parts of Kent, Surrey, Essex and Hertfordshire.

They were replaced by democratically-elected County Councils by the Local Government ( Ireland ) Act 1898.

Tipperary remained a county palatine until the passing of the County Palatine of Tipperary Act 1715, with different officials and procedures from other counties.

Under the Local Government Provisional Order Confirmation Act 1976, part of the urban area of Drogheda, which lay in County Meath, was transferred to County Louth on 1 January 1977.

The London Passenger Transport Act 1933 removed responsibility for of tram route from the London County Council, three county boroughs and a number of other local authorities in the Greater London area.

This came under the jurisdiction of the County Palatine of Durham until the Counties ( Detached Parts ) Act 1844.

Michigan, led by the young and hot-headed Mason, responded with the passage of the Pains and Penalties Act just six days after Lucas County was formed ; the act made it a criminal offense for Ohioans to carry out governmental actions in the Strip, under penalty of a fine up to $ 1, 000 and / or up to five years imprisonment at hard labor.

In Alberta, the county used to be a type of municipal status ; but this was changed to " municipal district " under the Municipal Government Act, when the County Act was repealed in the mid-1990s, at which time they were also permitted to retain the usage of county in their official names.

Substantial reorganisations under that Act resulted in the 1989 shake-up, which covered the country in ( non-overlapping ) cities and districts and abolished all the counties except for the Chatham Islands County, which survived under that name for a further 6 years but then became a " Territory " under the " Chatham Islands Council ".

In 1889 he became an Alderman on the Caernarfonshire County Council which had been created by the Local Government Act 1888.

His attacks on the government's Education Act, which provided that County Councils would fund church schools, helped reunite the Liberals.

His successful amendment that the County need only fund those schools where the buildings were in good repair served to make the Act a dead letter in Wales, where the Counties were able to show that most Church of England schools were in poor repair.

In 1974 it lost its status as the smallest county borough in England, after the Local Government Act 1972, and came under the control of Kent County Council.

The rise in population of the surrounding districts helped lead to the Act of Consolidation of 1854 which extended the city of Philadelphia to include all of Philadelphia County.

In s. 2 of the Act each council formed for a county is allocated the respective English and Welsh descriptions of " County Council " or " Cyngor Sir ", each council formed for a County Borough is allocated the respective descriptions of " County Borough Council " or " Cyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol "; in all cases the shorter alternative forms " Council " or " Cyngor " can be used.

To honor John Eager Howard, an officer in the American Revolutionary War and later the fifth Governor of Maryland, the area was designated the Howard District when Anne Arundel County was divided in 1839.

* Fort Noel ( 1839 – 1842 ), south of Lamont on the Aucilla River, six miles ( 10 km ) northwest of Fort Pleasant in Taylor County.

Rock County was created in 1836 as a territorial county on December 7, 1836 from Milwaukee County and fully organized Feb. 19, 1839.

Hunt County is named for Memucan Hunt, Jr., the first Republic of Texas Minister to United States from 1837 to 1838 and the third Texas Secretary of the Navy from 1838 to 1839.

After the Texas Revolution, the Congress of the Texas Republic established Harrison County, formed from Shelby County, in 1839.

The name was changed to Harris County in December 1839.

January 1839, Falls County saw two brutal massacres by the Anadarkos, under chief José María, at the homes of George Morgan and John Marlin.

The earliest known newspaper in the county was the " Our Freedom and Union County Advertiser ," first published in Marysville in 1839 by Stephen McClain, Robert McBrattney, and William Lawrence.
