There is a Natural History Museum operating under the direction of the University of Crete and two aquariums-Aquaworld in Hersonissos and Cretaquarium displaying sea creatures common in Cretan waters.

There is also a small aquarium called Aquaworld Aquarium featuring local sea life and reptiles, most of which are rescued animals and many of which visitors and their children can hold.

Fin whales, Humpback, and Right Whales are seen off the Virginia Beach coast on whale watching boat trips run by the Virginia Aquarium and Marine Science Center.
